1.94 and 1.60 was my preference for the street for many years.

@@sswcustomsewing4276 ...good, I wasn't hearing things. 😁 I spent 80 hours rec-contouring my intake ports after seeing a machinist drawing in one of David Vizards books, Performance with Economy I recall. He mentioned using 1.6 but said leave the 1.94s alone unless you regularly go 6000+ I took my brand new heads to my machinist a long with the 1.6 seats and valve and he said: "Randy, would you quit reading books" 😱 😂😂😂😂😂 I was expecting a pat on the back. 😁 Seat-O-pants-O-meter said I done really well. Very noticeable power increase. What do machinists know anyway 😉

@@randywl8925 Yes Dave Vizard is another favorite I have that book too. I recently learned Dave had a RU-vid channel where he shares his knowledge. Another guy I really like is Lake Speed Junior he works for Total Seal and he is sharp as a knife. Dave and Lake Speed JR they use scientific data and have no time for wives tales. I learned about the 1.94 1.60 trick from a engine builder who did mostly sprint car engines. I had a set of 2.02 heads on the street and one cracked. The old engine builder he told me try 1.94 and 1.60 and he recommended one of Crower Cams street beast cams I cannot remember the number off the top of my head right now. He told me I had no reason to run many things because of the RPM range you mentioned and also he taught me to build to your application. Headers I never ran those on a small block for street I ran the Corvette 2.5" dump ram horn manifolds they worked great. So the machinist who said quit reading books sounds like the lazy type that is still technology wise stuck in the past is my guess? These days I would be looking for a crashed Chevrolet Tahoe and getting one of the new V8 engines. Don't get me wrong I love my old small block and big block Chevrolet engines. I just really like the horsepower, torque, reliability, and longevity of the new engines. Remember when it was the cool thing to grab a Vortec top end or complete engine cheap from a crashed vehicle? I remember people porting and doing modifications to the Vortec heads and loosing power. Do you remember Joe Mondello ? I remember his porting and cylinder head tips were really great. Thank you for sharing and bringing back some good memories.
