its probably my Padres bias talking, but there was some stat on screen during the Darvish game that said the Padres are the first team since 1893 to have 4 starters in a row go 5 innings or more and only give up 2 or fewer hits. The more I read that the more it sounds super specific and less impressive, but over 100 years is kinda crazy

I don’t know why the Mets didn’t resign homegrown Seth Lugo. He’s always been a spin rate darling. Of course there was the disconnect/conflict between Lugo & Mets’ brass; Lugo wanted to start while the Mets wanted to keep him in the ‘Pen. Wherever he pitches, he has always been good & durable. Sometimes availability is the best of the bunch. The Mets vaunted rebuild in the mid-2010’s was built on pitching which included Matt Harvey, Zach Wheeler, Noah Syndergaard, Steven Matz, & Seth Lugo. Harvey & Syndergaard both fizzled out after injury. Both relied on velo for success & weren’t able to remake themselves as pitchers like one Bartolo Colon who went from power pitcher to a Greg Maddux type control & movement pitcher. Former idiotic & myopic Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen let Wheeler walk to the Phils on a relatively modest contract. Wheeler showed he was filthy, but also consistent after injuries plagued his first couple of years. Wheeler wanted to stay a Met & showed he could thrive under the unforgiving Bright Lights of the Big Apple which eats alive some players. Now Matz is decent but has injury issues.. Of course deGrom was arguably the most gifted & filthiest of the bunch but he had 3 injury shortened years prior to signing with the Rangers where he got hurt again & is out for 2024. He could probably throw at 85% of his max & reduce the stress he puts on his arm & still be better than 99% of the league. Wheeler & Lugo turned out to be the best of all them as they’ve stayed healthy & consistent yet the Mets idiotically let them both walk . DeGrom might be the nastiest butI’d argue that because Wheeler & Lugo have stayed healthy for a long stretch they turned out to be the best. Nonetheless, the Mets let them walk which makes my blood boil & still stings. Then The Mets wonder why the Braves & Phils consistently win over them.😦🫤😬😠😡🤬😤😭 Now he isn’t a pitcher but the Mets homegrown first baseman Pete Alonso, who happens to be one of the game’s best power hitters is in his final year of his contract yet the Mets haven’t extended him. Ridiculous. If they let him walk for nothing, it will alienate Mets fans & could cause irreparable damage to the goodwill of the franchise. We supposedly got a shrewd nee GM In David Stearns who is a local kid & grew up a Mets fam, but ai don’t know what the hell they are doing with Alonso. Makes my blood boil.
