The film did not performed well at the box office and was a financial failure, as well as being panned by critics. Despite this, it achieved a cult status among its fan base, especially on home media.
Fact: Gumby The Movie was finished in 1992 (which would explain all of the 1980s-style rock music) but wasn't released in theaters until three years later, it only received a limited release in 21 theaters.
I kid you not, this movie played in only 21 THEATRES. As a result, it only grossed $57,100 against its budget of $2.8 million. I know this because I’m what you would call, a GUMBY SUPERFAN.
It actually came out in 1995 but it’s production was completed in 1992, Premavision was unable to find a distributor until 1995, when they found a small movie studio called Arrow Releasing.
Hey Gavin, this might be a long shot, but do you still have any of the videos you uploaded on your old channel? I was especially fond of your "proof that there was a VHS of Cars" video, and I would really like to see it again.
Is it possible that one day when you got a scanner or anything like that, can you upload the entire movie in it’s full glory in 4K? We need a Gumby movie blu ray release.
But bro... one already exists, dude. I even have a copy of it myself. I bought it when it came out. www.amazon.com/Gumby-Movie-Blu-ray-Combo-Pack/dp/B01M9BFWNM/ref=sr_1_2?crid=OS9IO1SLVW0H&dchild=1&keywords=the+gumby+movie+blu+ray&qid=1608623522&sprefix=The+Gumby+Movie%2Caps%2C181&sr=8-2
