Whats you go to lens? I feel 35mm is the key to that question and is one of the best if not the best all rounder for most needs. There are many others but this is the king and competes against most focal lengths .

I actually really do not like the most popular YT advice for the first lens ... they always say get 50 F1.8. Also what they forget to mention is crop factor. So I got 50mm F1.8 for my APS-C so I got myself field of view of 80mm lens (Canon 1.6x crop). 35mm is definitely more challenging to use at first, but if you learn how to used it properly you can learn later any focal length. It's quite hard to switch from telephoto shooting to 35mm and wider. So I would always recommend 35mm for FF camera as first lens and 23/24mm for APS-C camera.

Yes 23mm for crop sensor def. Good to practice with allowed focal Lengths to see the pros and cons for sure

That's what I'm running since one year. But my 35mm isn't very good, I plan to upgrade it soon as I almost never take my 85mm out of the bag

@@der.kommentierende.komment5275 it’s an easy win with the 35mm , I try to keep my Kit bag to a minimum

I cover all my events and weddings with 2 cameras, one with 35 and one with 85. Never failed me.

It's mind boggling to me how many people still fight me for shooting portraits on a 35mm. It's literally such a good focal length for portraits and people talking about distortion really don't know how to use it 😅

If I would start from scratch the 35mm 1.4 would be the first lens I'd buy. Followed by a 85mm 1.4. Unless I'd only do wildlife then probably a 400mm 2.8 and/or 150/200-500/600 zoom lens.

I’ve been running a 25mm distagon lately and I’ve become quite addicted to that focal length. 35mm was my go to for a really long time. I love my 105 2.5 nikkor as well though

The 105 is a superb lens too. The distagon is class as well, there’s a lot you can do with it and besides if it works for you then that’s the main thing

I hate people telling me what lenses I need. OK, my go-to lens has been a 35mm prime for four decades. The world has changed, and so have I. Sorry for the ones who try to hang on to the past.

Agreed. A 35mm prime was the only lens I had from 2014 until 2020. I have taken the most of my best photos through that lens to this day.

To be honest, that's why I like these recent 35-150 f/2-2.8 zooms so much. They give you the opportunity to be wide enough and still fast as a 35, while also having the option to go more into classical longer portrait ranges, in one lens. That's something the 28-70s of this world just can't do, and the 35 primes also can't. Yes, weight. But I save that in not needing another lens and in saving the hassle of changing constantly.

I always found the zooms of the world as the main work horses for sure
