FINALLY RACING AGAIN!!!!!!
It's been four months since my last race and any real group riding for that part, lol. I'm not a super social person and when I do, the recharge time is twice as long, so bare with me, lol.
This video took basically two entire days to even get here.
Laptop is so old that it renders video at a snails pace, so yeah, I'm working on getting a replacement soon.
Unfortunately I couldn't finish my commentary because there is just too much noise around me and I am unable to wait till the middle of night when I'm already exhausted from work and riding and it's quiet to really stop and spend almost an hour editing the video further. Again, I blame my laptop, lol. Anything longer than 6-8mins (20min race videos specifically) can take 8-12hrs to fully edit/export/upload.
BUT TO THE RACE, lol.
Overall, it was fun. I did have a bit of a mechanical issue before the race started (rear brake was clunking, which could have been my brake pads hitting my rear tire), but luckily it was still safe enough to ride, because who slows down in a crit? AmIright? lol
Earlier in the year I did get extremely sick (cough and covid got me, so yeah, probably one of the worst moments ever). Lungs burned while riding for roughly two weeks afterwards, and then came my new puppy Maximus aka Max, and well that took up some training time away for a bit, but it's all good, love the little dude.
I came into the race expecting nothing, just wanted to race and test myself and see how good or bad I would end up doing. Warm up suffered a bit because of the mechanical problem, but overall it wasn't as bad as I thought. I did get dropped, but I actually did get in the mix with the group more than ever.
Funny thing is my bike setup.
Original bike was a 2005 Giant OCR 3 w/105 5800 (I upgraded parts knowing I'd be using them down the line and stripping it all down, don't judge me, lol).
The bike I used in this race was a 2012 Terry Tailwind w/105 5700 (went from 11spd to 10spd).
As crazy as the downgrade in parts sounds, I was more comfortable on this bike, than the OCR with the nicer parts. BIKE FIT ABSOLUTELY MATTERS. AND, I spent like 70% LESS on the new bike w/parts, than I had spent on JUST THE 5800 GROUPPO!!!!!!!! Overall, this should tell you that as long as you get a bike that fits you well and has decent parts, it'll work beautifully.
I apologize for the weird camera angle. I need to tilt it up a bit more. Due to the new setup, the front end of my bike is closer to me, so I can get lower comfortably, but I forget that the cam has to be tilted up more to compensate, lol. I will remember for next time!
