At the time when our Dad was in his late 90’s and 100, friends would ask him this question. His reply was often… Well I’m still kicking. I’m just not kicking up much dust! 😁 He was a Pilot during WWII and had a lot of great stories for those wanting to take time to listen. He was a great Dad and loving husband for over 50 years. He’s greatly missed.

Something similar happens with me and my friends: Friend- "How are you" Me- "Yes" Friend- "What do you mean yes?" Me- "I mean yes" Friend- "But... Yes isn't a response to the question I asked" Me- "Why?" Friend- "Because... It's not..." Me- "You sure?" Friend- "Yes" Me- "Now look who's saying yes! Well, well, well, see how the tables turn." Friend- "Why are you like this *insert my name" Me- "Hmm... Maybe cuz I was born..." Friend- "Okay then... I'm just gonna slowly walk away" Me- "Okay I'm gonna stay here and regret all of my life decisions." Edit- I just added "friend" and "me" to the beginning of each sentence so it is less confusing.

Better now that im talking to you. Negative responses: Im not going to lie .....I feel terrible.. I'm not doing so well/I'm struggling a bit Im snowed under. Its been a bit of a tough week. I'm not having an easy time at the moment. Avoiding question: You don't want to know! Don't ask! Honestly just don't ask me Do i have to answer that? I think you already know. Shhh.. it's too early to tell. Ill responses: Im feeling a bit under the weather. Overworked and underpaid. Slowly but surely dying actually, aren't we all? Have lived in California for a while. Some of the common responses are: Hangin’ in there, Takin’ it one day at a time, Chilling, Dandy, Taking it easy, Not too shabby, Livin’ large, sup (What’s up): A single word response that avoids answering the question and throws it back at the other person. Whazzaaaaa! (What’s up) with tongue lolling out and a bottle of beer in one hand.

Most of my daily interactions go as followed: Speaker 1: Y'aright? Speaker 2: Y'aright mate? End conversation I also like the repsonse "honestly?"
