This is a short review of a miniature set of Morse Code keying paddles from BaMaTech made in Germany. This beautifully made iambic paddle will be ideal for my future portable ham radio operating activity.

The bigger brother, TP-II, is also a very nice key! Modern, pleasant and reliable.

I don't need or want one but I admire the engineering. Thanks for sharing.

What a beautifully designed & constructed iambic paddle & the quality is obvious for all to see. Good excuse to finally start learning Morse as I always dreaded using a straight key, but this looks so cool & would suit the 705 to a tee. Thanks Alan for demonstrating, & uploading it, well timed & sending regards to Markus for a nice product!

My TP-III has arrived two weeks a go...and I made my frist SOTA and my first WWFF activation....they are just superb. The key is very easy...and on SOTA is easy to use the key with one hand.

I use the American Morse paddle. For portable operations I mounted it to a small clipboard. This lets me hold the clipboard with paddles against my knee with the left hand and operate the paddle or write down call signs and information with my write hand. This arrangement eliminates putting paddles down while I copy the QSO. Picture of this on my QRZ page. Charlie KM4ZZ

@w2aew would have been nice to see a paddle reverse switch like on the cheaper one you mention, the slight play in the vertical axis isn't an issue in operation for me and for $65 its a bargin.

Beautiful idea with the opposing magnets to set the force. (Unless it's common, which just demonstrates I know nothing about mechanical engineering. 8) ) Beautiful paddles in general!

I had that idea in mind for a long time but of course I'm not alone and I'm lazy :D I'm happy somebody did it to a real product. Congratulation to German colleagues! Nice job !!!!

I'd think I'd be better at driving your Porsche (if I could ever fit in it) then using your paddle....LOL I do like how well built that first paddle is. Would be neat to bring and use with your portable set-up.

I've been looking at their portable straight key, but there's been no video reviews of one in action. If the paddle is of good quality, I'm sure the straight key would be as well. Thanks for the peek. 😀

This is a request for a video topic: I note that there are many videos on end fed so called random wire antennas. I have watched many and I am UN-impressed with the content. I am a inactive Ham and an electronics engineer. (Not much RF experience) But it seems to me that there are conflicting explanations on the sub topics such as: 1) UNUNs 2) Counterpoise 3) RF Chokes on the coax 4) Wire length and type 5) Grounding or not - If I were confident in my understanding, I would make a video and structure it by designing a circuit equivalent of the antenna 'system' including each of the above. - I have watched many of your videos and not only find no fault, but I highly respect your clear approach toward teaching. Please consider a video on this topic. I believe it would be a significant contribution to the Ham community. You are the real Elmer, amongst many not so. Thanks for your considering this request. Very nice key and I wonder how it compares to the Begali Adventurer.
@w2aew
@w2aew 7 месяцев назад
Good question. I've had the TP-III for a bit over a year, and just got the Begali Adventure for Christmas (so haven't had as much experience with it). But, at this point I can summarize as follows: - Both are fantastic design and build quality - Both are super-smooth and solid - Adventure "feels" more like a full size paddle (larger finger paddles, similar feel) - TP-III is certainly a portable/mini key - much smaller finger paddles. - Adventure works GREAT on the KX-2 mount and/or the base mount - would not work well hand-held as your grip would likely activate paddles. - TP-III is definitely designed for portable operation (decent contact protection from dust/dirt, easy to operate on surface or hand-held). - The TP-III feels more bullet-proof for rugged travel in a field pack, I'd want to put the Adventure in some kind of protective case for travel. Bottom line - both are fantastic. I feel like I've got the Porsche (TP-III) and Ferrari (Begali) of portable paddles!

I just ordered this beautiful key. This excellent review serves as a great quickstart manual. I like the elastomeric tape idea. Any specific type or brand you recommend? 73.
@w2aew
@w2aew Год назад
I used something I found on Amazon with good reviews. Put the tape on the bottom of a small metal plate - works pretty well, but still needs a little bit of pressure to keep steady.

I would imagine it is. I personally have not used the TP-II, but I would expect that it is as good as the TP-III.

How is the speed adjusted and the tone generated?
@w2aew
@w2aew Год назад
The speed and tone are controlled by the electronic keyer in the radio (or a standalone electronic keyer). This paddle set is nothing more than a pair of normally-open switches.

I suppose you drive a Porsche. You know a lot of people can't even afford a car. I myself have a Camry, it's pretty good. "Yo check out my Porsche everyone" :D Or do you just own the key to show off a little bit ;) If I ever have so much money to buy a Porsche I like to think that I'd still get the Camry and maybe take some of those savings and donate to poor people but who knows what I would actually do. Think about this one, if you paid $10,000 less for your vehicle you could give $100 tips to 100 people. Is it a black 2011 boxter (from reddit)? I guess that's not too bad, looks like they sell for $30k. For reference I paid $12k for the Camry with only 40k miles and it's also a 2011. My thinking is this, if I made twice as much money as a "normal" person but I spent the same amount as a "normal" person, then I only have to work half as long and get to retire early. But if I also spend twice as much then I still have to work until I'm old just like everybody else. That's my theory anyway, so I'm trying to keep my expenses on the low end lol. I'm sure you don't care about any of that but hey, if you post a video you might get stupid comments like this :D
