Diving the Wreck of the Mikhail Lermontov in the Marlborough Sounds, new Zealand. I was trying different camera solutions for the Boxfish 360 rig at the time. This video is shot with 10x GoPro Hero 4 Black, and they didn't make the cut. You can see the issues with image quality, sync, and seams. Interesting nevertheless. Lighting was achieved by 5x L&M Sola 3000 on a 3d-printed mount, positioned 1m below the rig.
The video was taken on 19 Feb 2016. The top of the central staircase and starboard entrance to bridge and festival lounge have collapsed after the Kaikoura earthquake on 14 Nov 2016. This VR video is now the only way to experience these features of the wreck.

Brilliant video, and a fantastic idea. I know you've done other, static 360 videos, but despite the identified issues this is a really original and immersive way of exploring a wreck like this. I'd really urge you to consider doing more, if you can. Personally I believe the visual quality issues are a small price to pay for an unique experience like this. Really well done.

Beautiful ship once. A different beauty I suppose now. Be safe and thanks for the video.

Your video is an outstanding effort. A very interesting view as if the ship was upright rather than on its starboard side. My grandparents were on that ship, and they told the story of how they mustered in the Bolshoi Lounge right next to the stairs where they could look down and see the water rising. It was fascinating to see your footage of that area where they were. They also related that on their way to the Lounge, a queue had formed of people waiting to go up the stairs, and despite limited power and lighting, the shops were still trading !! My grandmother purchased a pen, which I still have. Again, a great effort, the best footage of the Lermontov I have seen to date.

Don't think I ever seen that pilot without a smirk on his face on the otherhand the captain's sad eyes and kind demeanor sticks in my mind\can't imagine him having to watch this all because of one loose cannon

Awesome vid, doesn't capture the extreme risk of those dives. Not sure of the divers who have died on this wreck now but I know of a couple whom only Just got out of the map room off the bridge when the floor covering decided to obscure/block the exit in zero visibility. As I said, awesome footage. Stay safe.

Amazing video! You really got the feeling that you are onboard with that 3D camera, but it seems to be very dangerous if you're not an experience diver,if you're not it could easily end up in disaster! But you're getting the Titanic feeling watching this video, and i agree with some of the comments, it's unbelievable that this video hasn't more likes and views! Thanks for sharing 🙌 Love from Sweden 🇸🇪❤️

Fantastic footage. When did this ship sink? For a recent shipwreck the deterioration is horrible; makes me think that the RMS Titanic is probably just a pile of garbage on the sea floor - sad. GREAT filming! Luv this!

In just a short matter of a few more years the Titanic will be nothing more than a smudge on the ocean floor. Her hull is so fragile already that she will be completely gone soon.

@@richardcline1337 right; the most famous shipwreck in human history will be a pile of twisted garbage. Because of this fact, I'm one of those individuals who say that as many things as possible should be salvaged from the wreck. For those who insist that it is a grave, the human remains are long gone and what better a tribute then to preserve as much as possible for future generations.

Great video, but you should release the full video, the constant cuts are extremely annoying.

Very sad that the New Zealand Pilot got away with the destruction of this boat the Chief Navigator spent 5 or 6 years in a prison and the Harm it did the Captain and her crew who were from all over the world

Obviously the New Zealanders had learned very well from the British how to cover up the mistakes of their own and dump the blame on the innocent as the British are experts at doing.

This wreck appears to be too deep for sport divers, but obviously not for technical, military or commercial divers. The fact it's on it's side and it's state of decay means it could be a death trap for divers, three of which have perished at the wreck site.
@Justins-Adventures
@Justins-Adventures 3 года назад
It's really not. 13-40m deep (40-140feet). Open water divers can diver the top outside parts and advanced open water divers/deep divers can dive the rest of the outside. If you have wreck training there are some easy penetration in the light zone. If you have advanced wreck there's the whole of the ship to explore. You do need deco training to do penetration in the deeper sections though. As for trimix only a few rebreather divers use it. It's not common and usually just 20/20. As for mititary why on earth would they dive it? There's no point. And the only commercial divers who dived it did for only a couple months after is sank 35years ago to remove the fuel oil

Great footage, but silly idea to do the top-bottom split. I couldn't concentrate on anything and after about 4 minutes of this, I starting to get motion-sickness. Thumbs down.
