The U.S. had very good exchanges and a very fast team. All 4 of them were among the top 6-7 guys in the world. So France was really good to still be so close going into the anchor leg, but the U.S. had Carl Lewis, one of the best anchors ever.

Mike Dwyer of Canada was my teammate at York University. Told me many great stories.

I ran a few relays with Mike Dwyer for the Optimist T.C. One year we beat a bunch of S.E.C. teams (Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, FSU) at a meet in Kentucky with just some guys from our club. I ran leadoff. The team was Stasiuk, Dwyer, Mike Wynter, Val Grose. We weren't the national team or anything. We were just 4 guys from our track club. I wasn't even supposed to run. I was there to long jump, but Richard Rock who was going to run with the other guys couldn't make the trip, so they grabbed me at the last minute and we ran. We never practiced at all ... just tried an exchange during the warm-up on the first day. Ran two perfectly clean races, semi-final and final. I'll never forget the experience of running a really good turn and making a perfect exchange with Mike and watching him fly away knowing we were probably going to win. Relays were always so much fun.

I worked with Mike Dwyer at York in the mid-90s when he was in his mid-30s and training to make a come back in track. He was such a down to earth guy and I learned so much about track (which was the first sport that I loved as a child) from him. I spent more time listening to his stories than actually working. It was through him that I learned how western countries, like the UK and Canada, would go to Jamaica and other Caribbean islands, find children who had real sprinting potential, have them immigrate to those countries and run under their flags. I started paying more attention to my favourite sprinters and realized how many of them fit in that category. Even though my family is from 🇹🇹 I was so proud to see how 🇯🇲 was able to keep it's sprinting talent beyond Merlene Ottey and dominate from the early 2000s. Caribbean sprinters will always have my support!

This generation of U.S. sprinters in the Carl Lewis era was very consistent. They almost always ran a clean race and broke the WR at most major events. What happened? They have been the most inconsistent relay team for a few decades now.

There was so much Juice on that track, I'm surprised it wasn't slippery.

Carl lewis is the greatest athelete of ALLTIME. It's easy to forget with all the fuss over Bolt. But this man is the GOAT. To be that good at both sprinting and the clear GOAT of the long jump. Forget it. He is the GOAT.
