I used to not think very highly of wristlocks until I actually started trying them in rolling, and now they're some of my favorite techniques.
@MJ-xl5jz
@MJ-xl5jz 3 года назад
For me it was the other way round: I thought they were effective, but when I tried using them during rolls they wouldn't work against minimal resistance.
@chcknpie04
@chcknpie04 Год назад
@@MJ-xl5jz that suck. Some of these are more effective than others for sure, and some people have crazy flexible wrists
@MJ-xl5jz
@MJ-xl5jz Год назад
@@chcknpie04 I think the problem is that they often control only a limited area of the opponent. As Danaher once said, BJJ is about control and that's why wristlocks are harder to pull off than most other techniques. Except perhaps for older folks or those of a higher weight class, so they use them more often.

From bottom half guard you can wristlock if you get kimura grip on the far arm. You can also do knee shield half guard and attack the near arm with the same 2-on-1 as close guard. Or wait till they swim their near arm in to beat the knee shield and post their hand in your hip to knee slice pass. Cover their hand, pin it to your hip and use your same side hand to pull and control their elbow.

But if someone is throwing constant low Percentage but low risk and high reward wrist locks, you are going to overthink about where you have your hands at all times
@phantom_mist1726
@phantom_mist1726 4 года назад
Wrist locks are so good for setting up other things. So even if they don't work look at how they are reacting. Are they going to use their second arm to protect their arm? Well now you have the arm across his body maybe there an arm triangle etc. It's the same concept of going from an armbar to triangle to an omo plata. Go for the move if they don't do anything about it, they get submitted, if they do something about it then you react. you're on the attack and they are on the defensive.
@sylvainfrenchsvp5018
@sylvainfrenchsvp5018 3 года назад
They are unexpected moves that you can do without sacrificing your position and they work a lot more than you'd expect. At the very least they force your opponent to think defensively and get cautious with his grips.
@liamdoes8580
@liamdoes8580 3 года назад
Maybe not, but if someone can catch something from everywhere without any risk for example a leglock gives up position, an armbar and a triangle can get youre guard passed a wrist lock is just a free submission attempt that you don't have to give up position for and you don't have to open you're legs for. it makes people think about how they'll get wristlocked next and then eventually they'll get caught or you'll end up catching them with something they aren't expecting. Also I forgot to mention but even though they might look like they don't work you can catch a wristlocked faster than any other submission so you could probably have a wristlock finished before the other guy knew he was being wristlocked

I did ju-jitsu for 9 years and the “side wrist lock” which ironically wasn’t shown here always fascinated me! I remember how much pin point pain there was from such little effort! I don’t know if I can explain it properly but say someone is going for a 2 hand bent arm strangle. You step back with your left foot at the same time, with your right hand you grab their right hand from the top and twist it upwards while your left hand controls his elbow joint pushing it downwards. I couldn’t believe the leverage of 2 joints from such little force. 28 years later I’m randomly on chatgpt which lead me to try RU-vid and I see this video lol and this guy can perform a wrist lock from any position or scenario lol what a fkn genius! My question is. Why don’t they use this more in ufc ? It’s so brutal, easy to do, used leverage so strength doesn’t matter and has maximum pain while incapacitating them. Fortunately for me I never ended up in a proper fight but still remember everything from instinct like stance, how to punch properly by corkscrew punching 6 inches behind target, all the locks and take downs, how to fall properly etc I wouldn’t even say it’s instinct as it’s all I knew since I started at the age of 6 so I’ve never known to punch in any other way etc. I’ve always wondered how I would go in a fight haha but I guess it’s better not to have gotten in one in the first place! I’m 42 now and considering getting back into it with my 11yo just for basic self defence like I did. Thanks for the video it really was very inspiring!

Great 👍🏼 stuff!!! I do a lot of wrist locks in GJJ because I did Japanese Jiu Jitsu & Hapkido. I get a good # of them, but I don’t get as many as I could because I’m afraid if I crank it on fast I’ll break the wrist. Any advice for getting the bend in the wrist without cranking it/hurting the opponent?

I had a question. most of the time when I go for a wristlock, most of my opponents will immediately straighten their wrists and clench their fists, making it difficult to finish. Ive tried clubbing the inside of the wrist and sometimes finish it there, and of course try pinning their elbow in the center of my chest or at their hip. what else should I do to get the finish?
