Cool mod Bro !! Hope it stands the test of time. I found a gear set that gives 25% (ish?) and its by Team K&K I believe. (no affiliation) I put it in my Sendero and it seems to work just fine. It is a bit noisier than the stock gears because they are metal. Thanks for the vids.
Yes! KNK has the 25%, which is about the same as this Hot Racing setup. So far, the truck has about 3-5 packs through it with this setup and it has been strong!
Sounds like you need to double-check. You want the higher speed to he in the front. You can check easily with the tape on the wheels like I showed in the video.
Very creative, I like it. Really gives this platform extra legs - they're such a great value machine already! This could be the secret sauce in a comp! Love it. Thanks for the idea and quality video :)
I imagine that you'll likely see some premature wear on the spur side and potentially over time in those HR gears since that top shaft/gear mesh will be a little out of alignment, or maybe they'll hold up fine?! Bearing not being fixed may also allow that top gear on the input shaft to wear on the case a bit since it's not captured... either way, great experiment. I purchased both the OD and UD gearset from HR back in the day for an Enduro not fully understanding how it went together at the time, was pretty disappointed realizing I couldn't use them both in the case. We'll see how this plays out! Good luck!
Yes - I assume these gears will not wear properly for sure. So far, I am 4-5 packs in without an issue! The top bearing is still captured, it just needed opened a little for it to hold in the case.
How’s the case holding up? I’m looking to under & over drive my rig! Also would lowering overall gearing help? That would be piñon and spur gear change yeah? Have you made any changes there or would a different motor be how you would do that? Loving my ecto! Cool to see you working with it.
Great - literally zero issues through MANY packs. I personally don't want to lower the overall gear ratio. I like to have the wheel speed when needed to hop over obstacles.
Cool mod man, how did it work out long term ? It’s been several months sense this was released.. I’m building a new element crawler now and was wondering if I could go bigger better stronger faster (in the front anyways). Let me know man..
Who in the world told u that u had to change axels and stuff to get that overdrive? But about 37% is perfect! If I want to get more. U can switch to portals and do some gear switching on the outside gears that r in the portal boxes.but anyways good job👍 cool video. And I hope it works out for u the way u want it to!
Cool mod. How has this held up for you? Was thinking of ways to improve my gatekeeper without having to go to far with upgrades. But I did change out my motor to a holmes hobby crawlmaster 10t (stock motor gave out), a 16t pinion, and 1.9 fling kings. I saw this and thought that this was a cool idea.
It has held up great, actually. Even when going brushless! Not sure you want to for this, sounds like you are going more if a mud-truck route with King Flings and a 10t.
@@RoadsideRC I do have soft dirt (clay like) in my area and for me the slow action of it climbing in that element seems real to me. So I was curious to see if that mod might be a good option with some brass weight in the front to grab with little effort coming from the trigger. New to the hobby and trying to find out what might work for my rig.
I knew you were going to try to get some more overdrive in this thing lol. Another way that you could get around the clearancing issue is 3-D print a new gear cover. I see that you also Re installed the solid front end
I'm so confused I bought my rtr used which means it didn't come with a manual I bought the od3 hot gears set which is a 29/51 and it doesn't say anywhere what percent that will give me also which factory gears gives you the 11.8 od please help thanks
Can you try to fit some 2.2 tires and wheels on the Ecto I would like to know if they will work without binding the steering angle too much. I want to buy one but I like 2.2 rigs. I saw one video with 2.2's on it but they were really small 2.2's I think the 2.2 Hyraxes are like 5.5 tall and was just wondering how much they rub.
@@RoadsideRC it works really well with the 1800kv fusion and 20 tooth pinion gear it crawls really well and side hills at over 50%.I have got low pro shock mounts and a different servo and full size battery tray up front plus I have different shock springs and oil to help to it does everything I have asked of it without much effort
Where and what are those wheels on your Ecto ,,, sorry bug ya but I love them ...I'm going to put stock upgrades in bag and try it may do what you done with hot racing so awesome!
@@RoadsideRC thats awesome...I just did mine tonight same exact thing you did...works great! Have you noticed any heating issues with motor or esc by chance?
So I see your not a fan of the independent suspension? Wow that’s a lot of overdrive! Not good for the trail anymore is it? I wanna put it in the Trx4 but still want to be able to trail with it. See ya next time my friend 😁💯💯🤙
The IFS quickly went away. Over the weekend, I just did a 3-mile trail loop with this setup. No issue at all. I honestly can't understand why people have concern on large overdrive % and trailing. It has never impacted me negatively
@@RoadsideRC Some people have really big motors and bash there trailing rigs and I think so much od could give problems wenn driving like that. I do bash my trail rig and I don’t want od in it. But in my crawlers I want od. I tried it for the first time on the Ecto and I’m hooked! 😛
@RoadsideRC that's awsome side question do you have any idea what shims are in the rear end for the diff lash mine all fell out when I went to change out my axle and don't know where to start
Have you noticed any issues with downhill with that much overdrive? I’ve been considering looking for an over/under drive for the axles, but this might be the best option. Also how can I buy one of those Roadside RC stickers?
Thanks! I have had no issues with downhill. Overdrive, in theory, should help keep the front of the truck ahead of the rear when going downhill also. I don't have a way to sell the stickers - yet! Working on that stuff. Right now, I only have a few sitting around the house as it is!
@@RoadsideRC Maybe my side hilling is more steep than the ones you do?🤷🏻♂️ I ended up doing the spring mod, because I got tired of it flipping over wenn side hilling. I’m currently waiting for Desert Lizard shocks to come in stock so I can try them. Btw We don’t have any rocks here, so all my crawling is in the forest and I found that brass doesn’t do the rig any good where I crawl
Guys, this video is absolutely wrong, don't break or drill your Gbox. You will never get OD more than Hot ricing offered you. I bought it and tested. Nothing more than 25%
@@RoadsideRC look, I ordered that gears 50/30, and then I ordered inverse shaft Part#: ASC42024. And then, took my Gearbox, pull 52/28 and 53/27 them out. After that, I Input in the Gbox new hot ricing gears and the original team factory 54/26 gears. With this setup we have only 25% rotation. 4 rotation rear axle 5 rotation front axle In this option we get each rotation 25%. 25x4=100% rear 25x5=125% forward
