Great to hear from someone who knows what he’s talking about. I personally found the 300 Winchester and Weatherby to be more punishing to shoot than the 375 H & H, but it might have been the rifle. One hell of a great cartridge💕 thanks.
As a fan of the child of the .375 H&H the .338 Win Mag I thoroughly enjoyed your coverage. Structured perfectly. I’ve read someplace that the belt was also employed to prevent the cases from getting stuck in the chamber due to narrow shoulders.
YES! The gentle shoulder slope at 8.5 degrees ....because of the gentle shoulder, a belt is required for headspacing. Most other belted magnums have steeper shoulders and do not need a belt for headspacing. For example, 25 degree shoulder in belted magnums like 7mm Rem Mag, 300 Win Mag, 338 Win Mag, etc. I live and handload in Alaska...both me and my hunting partner shoot 300 H & H...would love to see you post a youtube on that cartridge!
The belt is essentially a very thick rim with an extractor groove cut into it. Originally the belt determined the headspace for the cartridge. The longer cartridge (.375 H&H, for example) requires a longer action, which costs more. The shorter, wider cartridges fit in the 'standard' length actions and are less expensive to purchase. Most hunters appreciate that and the manufacturers save by not producing the longer actions; which do not sell in the same volume. With all that I've said, the video is quite educational - good facts and good presentation; easy to understand.
So funny, I saw another channel here on RU-vid compare a .375 to the 45/70 just recently as if they were somehow similar in power... I had to chuckle at him, I've never seen a 45/70 loaded quite that hot...
Check out buffalo bore Ammo. 300gr 45-70 JHP at 2350 FPS with 3600 ft lbs energy. Very close to many 375 loads. Horrible long range because of the bullet. 375 is 30-06 type trajectory and 45-70 is like a bowling ball rolling off a table. But up to 100-175 yards they’re not that far apart with these types of loads.
So respectfully I'm looking for a pre-64 miles 70 or a post 70 in the 300 H&H magnum where would I start looking what kind of price would expect already have dies and a reloaded, do you have any recipes you can recommend?sincerely, Donald Avant
