Buddy you take on jobs that astound me. I'm about a week shy of my first full year as a heavy duty tech and I've aspired to be as multitalented as you. We all have our role models and because of intelligence, experience, and willingness to take on any job and see it through you are definitely my role model. I've watched you for a long time and I'll continue to watch you to the end.

i used to drill truck frames with a hand drill also. pilot hole, step up to next size then the next size until i reached 5/8". it took forever! then i bought a milwaukee battery powered magnetic base drill with annular cutters for drilling frames...we do a fair bit of moving axles forward. i am looking at buying a "zip cut frame drill". it isnt cheap but it sure is easier to set up and use. however, it only uses traditional high speed drill bits. however, there are adapters available.

I bought a Jancy Slugger in 1992 when they first came out. We had a magnet drill but it used regular drill bits and couldn't hold the annular cutters. It was after the owner of the company died and the guy that was running it didn't want to buy it. I offered to buy the drill if they bought the cutters and I drilled the holes for $1 each and kept the cutters. I like being able to drill next to another hole which is something you can't do with a regular drill. You can drill 5 holes in the time it takes to drill one. I drilled frames, wear plates and forklift forks. We had forklifts that had bolt on forks. Replacement forks from the manufacturer cost $1200 each. We could buy a $400 pair of forks and drill them in about an hour each. I let one other guy run it one time. He got the cord caught in the cutter, ruining the cord, cutting the power so the drill spun, broke the cutter and two of the feed handles.

As curiosity has gotten the better of me on this video. Besides the learning experiences from drilling and mounting brackets for this sleeper, why couldnt he just buy the proper size sleeper for the truck since the mounting brackets for them are still there on the truck. If you pause the video a half second past 25:11 you can clearly see the old mounting brackets for the original sleeper the previous owner didnt remove them.

In regards to the stack wagon, friends truck with 7.3l power stroke sat at mechanic for 3 months. They could not find problem and ate 1k in parts. In a few hours I found that the Exhaust Back pressure sensor was bad. It kept the ecm from booting up when connected. Replaced sensor and truck runs, communicates with PC with no codes. Btw I am not an automobile mechanic by trade.

Those pilots make life easier. They are not expensive so quit whining and get a couple. There are several sizes as they change with the size of the cutter. I own one of those units. They make punching holes in frame rails so much easier. The pilots make lining up the center of the hole much easier too. I know it sucks when thing don't all come home when someone else uses something, That is simply life.
