Just like any other position the closed guard is extremely effective if you know what to go for. By knowing core combinations you will be set up much better to attack your opponent at a faster pace and have a better chance of being steps ahead of your opponent. If you are steps ahead of them, then there is a good chance that you will win.
It is with combinations and understanding transitions that you start elevating your game to the higher level. There are many set-ups to start a lot of these submission and that is just the beginning. Combinations are what get you much closer to the end. Thank you for watching. Jason

Sometimes I think that there aren't that many different techniques in bjj. Then I watch these videos and remember how stupid I am.

I love that this combo set leads with the hip bump sweep. Always been a favorite of mine and since I've been actively trying to develop a combo game I've realized the best combos start with a sweep or submission attempt that elicits the most dramatic and predictable response from your opponent. Good stuff, I'll come back to this video for sure!

Scully, you have some of the best videos out there. I only get to train 2-3 days a week but your videos help me on the days when i'm not training. I watch and learn things that I normaly miss when I'm rolling. Really great stuff! Looking forward to more, Jason! Great work and much RESPECT!

Nicely done. Nothing fancy that requires super hero qualities, but bread and butterstuff. Exactly what one needs to excercise again and again. Transitions from one technique to another until they become smooth and feel totally natural. Excellent sampling of the different techniques!! Keep up the good work!

@Hotkarl63 Hey, I'm a Ribeiro/Maxercise Jiu Jitsu bluebelt, I'd like to to add that most techniques in the closed guard can only be completed by opening the legs; everything from basic scissor sweep, to submissions like armbar and omoplata, or even two on one to taking the back, in order to have the mobility to execute the move, you got to open up the gaurd. Good luck.

Love this video. I'm a white belt training for soon a month, and recently i discovered the power of combinations. When i went straight for the triangle from guard it would always be loose mostly due to lack of technique, but going for the Omo Plata to triangle my triangles were so solid. Cant wait adding the Kimura, arm and wrist locks to the triangle :) Like he says, being steps ahead and knowing the next moves before their done are powerful, if not essential.
