I began my martial arts training starting with karate and a young age Learning nothing helpful in real combat not being a free style form and then was taught Wing Chun by a master while going to college and that started me on my way that lead me to Dan Inosantos school in 1974 in Torrance at the kali Academy at age of 21 taught mainly by Richard and I see how special his style of teaching was at that time in his life. after seeing this video I now know how truly fortunate I was to be instructed in a very special way back then by his style of teaching at that time. Very few people in the class compared to what you see here it was very personal almost like one on one and he really cared about us being a tightknit group We had grueling workout exercises sessions lot of kicks with hand held bags before going to kali sticks also a lot of hand trapping after becoming proficient with the sticks he removed them from our hands and Richard said you don’t need these these are only an extension of your arms and hands that was an epiphany for me! Wing Chun style hand trapping then 3 minute rounds of Full Contact no weight class western style boxing 16 ounce gloves and mouth pieces no headgear We had to change to next opponent no rest it was grueling and yet I learned so much back then, no pain no gain it ended up saving my life many times over. I can never thank Richard now that has passed however he meant so much to me and how his style of teaching changed my life. I write this as a memorial and my appreciation to this man that I feel was at the top of his teaching game back then and was so fortunate to have been trained in his ways.
