I rode 38 special yesterday for the first time on my old xr 400. it was ugly but I made it. I went after the steep part 4 times and made it past the rock ledge every time but couldnt hold it together to get over the top in 1 shot. When you get stopped pst the rock ledge its a horrendous battle to get bike started (kick start) and get to where you can get on the bike without sliding back off the ledge. Exhausting! Looks so much easier on video.
Great Video! This is the first year I participated in the Big Bear Run therefore I did the Advanced EZ route. Im gonna use this next year to practice and train for the Hard Way in 2020!
That made me glad I didn't go up this weekend and worked on the backyard instead.... LOL. Never ridden that trail but it looks like a good challenge. I'll try it later when it's not a debris field of bikes. Being a little vertically challenged I could see myself getting caught on a bad line trying to get around someone and just falling over... And over...and over. Nice video though and puts it into better perspective than the vids from spectators. Good job gettin er done!💪
It's all part of the fun. The ride had lots if easy stuff and quite a few hard or technical areas. The Big Bear Run also had 4 routes this year, this being the hardest. You should come out next year
Without the traffic you probably would have made pretty quick work of that hill. The constant loss of momentum in traffic was the killer. Nice vid! When my xcw is street plated soon be fun to check this stuff out too.
Ya, it was a crazy day. Plus 13 hours on the bike. One of the craziest events I have ever done. Completing it was something I'll remember for a long time
Awesome job. Next year I’m going for the hard route. Did the advanced easy and it wasn’t that hard at all. Wish it was more challenging but seeing this I guess il be careful what i wish for.
That ride kicked my ass... I finished but was 20min late... I think I made a mistake telling them I was late...the chicks taking tickets went, "Awww, OK!" and then went about their business... I had a nasty OTB passing a jeep on a fireroad...wiped my headlight right off my bike. Bike wouldn't run because of electrical harness ripped...I fixed that, delayed almost an hour, but my USB stopped working. MTBers helped me zip tie a battery to my bars to charge my phone GPS...it fell off and my phone died...Had to work with a dude that had a GPS to get back...totally slowed me down. So frustrating to be that close...
The event does not check it out. But you are supposed to be on a street legal bike And this hike does had a headlight, license plate, etc on it. I just don’t have blinkers
@@EverySingleSunday Thank you sir…appreciate the info Riding my 1st Big Bear ride this weekend and after watching this video I realize I better haul ass to 38 special so I’m not stuck in this mess lol
:) @4:13 coming down the hill, I got caught in that traffic jam. A lot of people struggling to tackle that hill. You had a clean and controlled ride. Good Job. Did you get a plaque?
I was in a Golden Fatty up front with Mousse. In the rear, IRC M5B with TuBliss around 8 psi. If I would have done it again, I definitely would have aired down to 3-4 psi. I love TuBliss in the rear... But hate it up front. Way too many punctures up front
@@EverySingleSunday Yeah man, you had your hands full... at the time I went up there was nowhere near as many riders till I was going down then I must have fallen 7 times trying to cut back and forth through all the riders that were trying to go up. Good times, better than letting my bike sit and home and making sandwiches for you guys hahaha!
@@EverySingleSunday you'd clean it.... clearly you know how to modulate your clutch, pick a line and roll the throttle.. but when you add 100 people standing on hill, rolling backwards, pitching rocks,or straight bailing out, yeah that gets a little dicey. the first time i did it was with my son, he was 12 on a crf 230f... no one around, he had a few drops, but it wasnt the hell torture that im seeing on your video! yikes!
Bad organization of this event..too many bikes trying to do the same thing at the same time..so they are all working against each other getting in the way..once momentum is lost by stopping up a big knarly hill like this..its usually game over.
It's all part of the challenge. The start of the ride is always Dusty and a cluster F. But, we powered through it and the last 11 hours after this weren't so bad LOL
Well, guess you could just leave the bike in the garage and make sandwiches for the guys who get out and ride? It comes down to technique and not just roasting your bike. Some of these guy were just pinned and spinning nthe tire the whole way Trick is, lug the bike and get traction
@@albertsammut433 Actually, yeah... in this video you see plenty of guys not overheating and the ones overheating are the ones just spinning their tires not moving up the hill. This is 100% not the route for you if you are not up to the challenge, that's OK and this event has an advanced easy route and easy route that you can join that would not put you and or your bike in these types of challenges (the hard route). Don't knock what we like to challenge ourselves with and we will not knock what you like to put yourself or your bike through.
