I love these videos,I look forward to them. I did the calculation from AUD to USA $ and it was $1,973 USA. When you break it all down it's impressive what you have done😊 If it's 7 weeks then that's only $281 USA per week or $243 for 8 weeks, which is fantastic
Holy rice milk!!! I am in awe of your grocery hauls. I swear Australia has THE best produce. I follow several aussie families and I'm always envious!! The variety of food you buy is lovely, so many yummy meals waiting to be made. Cheers Nyssa 🎉
I woke at 4.30am this morning, UK time, & looked straightaway to see if your supply haul was loaded & I watched it straightaway. Thank you for filming at the end of such a busy time. I may just have to go back & watch through it again in a few weeks w it being 8 weeks til the next one. You are the only creator where I do watch through the ads to help the channel xx
I appreciate it! Its definitely an added chunk of work at the end of the shopping lol, but its worth it, everyone loves to watch and I get a lot of new viewers on these videos, so it will benefit me in the long run! :D
I love watching your videos!! Over here in the states and just a 5 minute trip to the grocery store is my norm… but it’s so nice to see other people’s “normal”!! Your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed!
Thank you :D. I definitely think its not for everyone, this style of eating, but it works really well for me, I enjoy not having to go back and forth, and my budgeting system works well with having a bulk spend less often rather than trying to track what we're spending in dribs and drabs.
Wow Nyssa!!! Great job on the haul! I imagine you are exhausted, physically and mentally! You work so hard to do these large shops for your family. Not only to save money, but to also provide healthy, wholesome meals for the family. I truly admire you! God bless!
Your food storage areas actually look like the little neighborhood Latin stores we have in New Orleans. The amount of work you put into meals and shopping are above and beyond! 🏆
I had to rewatch half your video. Fell asleep because I didn’t want to wait to watch it. You should do a video of storing all this food away. That would be overwhelming to me.
Several channels have started running these Marvel videos they're quite long and you had another 18 minute advertisement longer than I usually will listen to for most RU-vid channels but I wanted you to get credit so I read a book while those were running
I enjoy paid ad free. Well worth it for the content I watch. I cancelled Netflix instead. Now i just skip through creator ads. If i had to go back to ads I would go crazy i think 😜
My husband was in advertising. Even though it paid the bills, i have a hard time sitting through the ads. Plus, it really is smoke and mirrors. Big surprise, i know. 😊
Thank you Rhonda! :D. I feel pretty satisfied, I feel like I should be able to make this work, there was very little I couldn't get (I forgot to mention there was no green pesto at either Aldi!) and I got some good quantities for what I feel like was a good price!
Only the top of the rugs got wet really! we pulled them off and laid them out as soon as the sun was up and they don't appear to smell, but I'll give them a wash with the new shampooer before we put any furniture over them! :D
Definitely, some of it isn't great and will go to the animals, but to be given the opportunity to go through it and use as much as we can is wonderful!
I have to start monthly shopping instead of weekly. I feel like it could save me alot of money. You do so good on your shopping. The plus on your shopping trip is you get to see your mom too. Priceless.
I think a lot of the savings are making things work, you use everything you have and you make meals out of it because you know you won't be going back! Definitely a significant boon! :D
I went from weekly shopping to monthly shopping and in some ways I saved but I also found that I missed out on weekly deals. If there is a special on an item I regularly use I would buy enough to last me until it's next on special. I've settled on going fortnightly.
@@amyrivers4093 yes, the specials is a bit annoying, though I do check the catalogues and sometimes get stuff sent to my mum, but that is definitely a con of less constant shopping
Im in awe that you crammed all of that in the ute and neatly on the trailer! Haha thats impressive. The chicken legs are an absolute bargain. Broccoli waits for nobody. Fantastic job , thank you for sharing lovely ❤❤
Super good price on those legs, and could just go straight into the freezer in meal sizes which made for less prep required for good meals later in the month! We lost some of the broccoli last month because I just didn't get to it, didn't want that to happen this month! I haven't tried freezing it before though, so we shall see, I blanched some and didn't a bit more and kept a bunch in the fridge in tupperware for this week, we shall see how it all pans out!
You’re family are really lucky you shop great budget etc and still eat better and yummy food than most people do . I’ve even got my hubby watching u food videos and him saying can you make that too looks lovely 😂
Hehe, I think I've hit a good point, where the food is still really good quality and the cost is lower, we still don't eat 'cheap' it is definitely not 'frugal' but its a good balance of spending versus quality!
I've been subscribed to your channel for a while now and watching your confidence in front of the camera grow has been such a pleasure to witness...although I loved watching rookie Nyssa too! ❤️ 😊
Hehe, thank you Leesa, I definitely feel a bit more comfortable with the camera, and I think a lot of that is audience growth, I chat to you guys in the comments as much as I can, and I realise people actually are watching and are interested and I want to cater to that!
The broken rice paper, I saw some reel about turning into airfryer rice puffed snacks. If you don't have one maybe a dry hot cast iron pan with a lid? Just a thought if you google it especially if the kids are growth spurt snacking . Sympathy there, I have a 6 foot 1 child who was a bugger to fill up when they were growing . My two older girls were bad enough but they were voracious
I have been meaning to try that, but it would just take me so long to cook a meals worth lol, with my limited oven/bbq space! :D. I would have to work out the cost/grams as well, whether it was worthwhile cutting the wraps we buy to make them or if it is definitely just a better cost/effort ratio to buy them :D
I'm a kiwi and a couple of weeks ago I went to our one and only Costco. The experience was amazing and I got some good deals. I did notice that some things were more expensive but I'm a bit pedantic so I had my notebook with the cheapest price I can get each product in preparation. 😊
You definitely have to look at unit pricing! I buy a few things half price at coles/woolworths over buying at costco, but there are some things that are the same price but in much bigger containers which I think is super beneficial for us, less packaging/rubbish etc.
@@amyrivers4093 Definitely have to be aware and not buy things just for the sake of it, and check unit prices etc. I find we make some considerable savings though! :D
Great to see the end of your haul Nyssa, the runners for the floors in-between your old and new will be fantastic.. The slipper socks won't get that dirty 😊... as I was worried about... looking forward to prep of all the wonderful vegetables you purchased from your green grocer.. They seem to be very generous giving you free items in your shop, they appreciate the amount you spend each time you visit.. looking forward to the prep canning etc video... 😊
I think some of the free stuff is popped aside for people who come and collect for animals! and my pigs do end up with some of it, but we try and use as much as possible too!. That is true! those runners will definitely help between the two floors and the slipper socks!
There's definitely a bit of tetris to it lol! But I'm pretty good at figuring out where things need to go these days, the trailer gives me more room! but its also a bit awkward to pack because it doesn't have sides.
I think you did amazingly well with the cost! Especially since you don't pull out the extra things that you mentioned at the end!!!! Great job, Nyssa! Can't wait to see all the yummy food you make from this haul!
That whole opposite side of the world thing has its pros and cons doesn't it lol, I get so much inspiration during your garden seasons as well while I'm sitting here with not much going on!
For the garlic bread, roast garlic in the oven by cutting the top of the bulbs exposing the garlic little bit of oil and salt on top and wrap in the tin foil and place in the bbq when you are cooking something else should take about half an hour, squeeze out the garlic and mix with butter (ghee might work) then make and cook your bread when cooled slice the bread not quite all the way through and smoother it in the garlic butter and inside the slices, place the garlic bread in the air fryer for 5 minutes.
I really like the Kara coconut milk. I bought it a month ago on your recommendation, when I was in Adelaide last. So far I have used it in my lasagna white sauce and also in a chicken curry.
A big hello from Victoria 😁 New to your channel, loving all the Aussie families like yours. Have subscribed and look forward to catching up on your previous videos.
Yaayy!! Nissas videos are here!! I enjoy your videos so much, especially the groc hauls! Yours are the very best & always happy to see them. Have a good week dear & try not to work so hard. If i were closer I would try & help you with some of the load. ♥️🏠🌈💐
8 week haul. Your cook up preps will be massive. I’m tired just seeing it all. I haven’t had a cabbage for some months now. It seems the meat prices are holding well. It has been years since I’ve had a custard apple. Yum.
That's a lot of chow! You are going to be busy prepping for a while! My kids have always eaten more in the winter. Always had to start buying bigger shoes and clothing at the end of winter too!Great video as always!TFS!!!❤
Wow, nyssa. The haul looks amazing. I bulk the Ravioli out with penne pasta and a bit of mince and roast veggies on the side. Makes for leftovers. This haul would last my family 4 or 5 months. Less people in my family. Im going for a shop soon. Thanks for some ideas.
I love making ravioli from scratch but it has to be for a special occasion! I quite like the bought stuff so we’ll see how the kids feel about it too :D
@OurSmallFootprint you can't bet homemade pasta, especially Ravioli 😋 now I want to make Ravioli 😫 Wednesday nights dinner, I reckon. Pack stuff is like a takeaway for us 😂 you have passed on the hot dog night on food day to my family 😂 kiddos love it only time they get hoy dogs.
Wow I'm impressed as well.. I thought you went way over budget but you didn't.. well done.. looking forward to seeing you use it all up.. thanks for sharing
Hi Nyssa, once again fantastic upload….looking forward to seeing what you do with all the food……get so much inspiration from you to make my own from scratch too….retired a year ago and hubby grows flowers for the pollinators and I grow veges to eat and preserve…I make your pizza and bread dough….yummo…
Always enjoy watching your videos, I lived in Warwick for a few years but back in North Brisbane now. Just wanted to share what I have found to be the nicest corn chips for nachos etc. Woolworth brand white tortilla corn strip's. They are $2.85 for 230g. Found in the isle with the mexican food.
I used to buy the individual size snacks for my kids and was always running out of, so I bought my kids a plastic tub with lid , the kids were allowed to pick out 2 snacks per day for their container which they kept in their rooms , funny after a few weeks they always had them left over at the end of the week , I think they were being greedy so their sibling would miss out .
My kids are pretty good about sharing out the quantities, even with like bulk biscuits in a box, they sit there and divvy them up into 6 piles lol, and then if someone doesn't want their share, then they eat them as well! I'm pretty lucky in that sense! :D. I do think though, as you say, having things available all the time means they are less likely to scoff things in one sitting, because they don't feel that need to.
Where I live Aldi are the only place I can get bone in skin on chicken thighs. I use them in the pressure cooker to make a quick chicken soup. The cost of groceries in Toowoomba I could only imagine would be a huge price jump that going into Costco etc. Good job on this haul.
It is definitely much more expensive to shop in Toowoomba, not only because some things just are more expensive but because of the lack of choice/costco, I know a lot of people think me weird for doing what I do, but I do believe that the reason we eat so well on the dollars we spend is because of that little bit of extra effort
With the Brocoilli I hope you use the stems aswell just trim the outside of them great in stir frys and other meals...lots of taste... Will be interesting to see if you get to 8wks with all that food... U can pickle the beans aswell also mushrooms great on sandwichs like open ones...
We have always used the stems, some of the beans did get pickled although it’s not our favourite :) and nobody likes mushrooms straight except D but I use them in lots of cooking :)
Yes I agree the Cucina pasta is great. Their spaghetti is brilliant. If you follow the cooking time exactly, you get restaurant quality pasta. Do you happen to have a Thermomix? You can make your own rice milk in it.
I do! But I’ve tried a bunch and none are passed by the kids lol, I’ve even tried the coconut rice one from quirky, I may have to try them again and see if I get a better response
@@Juniperberry76 yeah, I get skinless ones at Costco, last stop, shortest time in the esky and I find consistently cheaper (though I noticed breasts have come down in price in Woolworths/coles)
I really didn't want any of the broccoli to go to waste! we had to feed some to the chooks/pigs last month because I just didn't get on top of it quick enough and I didn't want that to happen again!
We're out west too. I travel to Dalby fortnightly and travel through to Brisbane every month or two to do Costco and fruit and veg haul. I'm glad to know I'm not one who does this.
It just makes sense to me once I figured it all out, a lot of people don't understand the reasoning behind it, but I did try Toowoomba more often, and it really just wasn't working! I much prefer the bulk bulk shop we do now!
@@OurSmallFootprint absolutely applaud you it was an amazing shop. We spend much the same as a family of 6. I'm trying to put the extra $$ away so I can do monthly shops in bulk in Brisbane I just quite haven't got there yet. Cost of living is ridiculous ATM. I've been watching your channel today and must say you guys are awesome and this is where my hubby and I are working towards. You are living my dream 🥰
@@MapleMumma It's definitely hard to get that first lot of bulk shopping done, and then to see if it lasts the way you think it should! There's a process too it, but its worth it I reckon!
@@OurSmallFootprint it definitely is an art. I used to get paid monthly and would shop for 5 weeks at a time compared to now shopping fortnightly. I actually used to save so much more money buying monthly then I am now 😮💨 but them the breaks.
Custard apple is very yummy fruit. It is soft when ripe and goes dark. Break it half and use spoon. Lot of seeds but who cares. I am sure I walk around supermarket with my eyes closed. Saw items I have never seen.
Yes, I think they’re all a bit green yet the one he served me some of he had accidentally put a finger through and these are definitely far too firm for that!
I will be very interested to see how the items you specifically got a lot more of than usual (rice milk, coconut cream, toilet paper) actually last the whole 8 weeks. Fingers crossed for you! I just went on a biweekly grocery run to get everything except fruit & veg and the cost of the meat, fish, and dairy were SO high. :( Some things were on sale but I still had sticker shock. Pack of 10 smokies (900g) $10 on sale but $14 regular, lactose free milk nearly $6/2L, 700g cheese $8, etc.
Me too! I'm unsure on the quantity of rice milk really needed for that period, I wouldn't want to buy much more than I did though, and we do find alternatives when it runs out, it just makes my life easier, they can have some cereal when they first get up and then I make a hot breakfast / bake bread or whatever a few hours later, I get a lot of work done in those first few hours where they are self sufficient, before we start school work/kitchen work etc. Meat wasn't too bad this month, I didn't buy much beef, other than the trim, because I just didn't find anything particularly well priced, but I got enough of other things I think we'll be good!
Like the names of your cereal they look like weetabix and Rice Krispies that we get in the uk. That brand is nice of tomatoes they do a pizza sauce and pasta sauces too
These are basically generic versions of the brand names bought from Aldi! :D. They're cheaper than the brand names, but the ingredients are almost identical, and the kids have never had an issue with it :)
I think things have evened out pricing wise! I think that we just don't get the same 'really good' bargains as you guys sometimes do, especially on meat, our discounts are less but our pricing is more stable :D
What a deal you got on all that fruit and veggies. Have you thought about buying more and selling it locally to neighbours etc? A little bit extra pocket money for yous!
And you get the opportunity to spend time with your mum on your shopping trips. Great deals on the vegetables and fruit. Look forward to the upcoming videos. One question, how do you ration potato chips ? I can pass on ice cream or biscuits but chips…not so much!
@@heatherchambers1609 I am very good at rationing my own eating, the kids not so much lol, once a packet is open, its gone, so basically I say no, eat fruit (or whatever else) as long as I can put up with repeating it and then I give in, and they're gone... lol.
You got the rice noodles! I'm so excited for you. I hope they taste great. ❤ some of that marinated chicken looks great. I need to go to a butcher to see what's Available here. I keep meaning to comment that I love that Maggi gravy soooooooooooooooooo much. I always ask for it for my birthday haha.
They gave me the stickers with all the ingredients in the glazes too and no dairy, so that works well! I do like my crunchy glazed ones a lot, but for the price :D The maggi gravy is so so good! The method on the rice noodles says to microwave the pack before stir frying, I'm hoping if I steam them first that might work!
That was a huge shop. Would love you to show us the instant oats you make. Does the Decor oil dispenser actually spray? The one I have is more of a stream. Looking forward to the preserving side of things. Really like the break down too.
Would you consider reusable feminine hygiene items? I had to buy some disposables for a relative (after 10 years of using reusable) and was shocked at how much it cost. I’m guessing with 6 kids and animals you have to do laundry often, so it shouldn’t be too much work to add a few more items And, are either of the Campbells (or other bulk food store) near where you go? They’re a great place to buy things in bulk. I buy 5kg bags of San Remo pasta from them. 1kg tins of tomato paste. Etc. they supply small shops and restaurants, cafes etc. You could probably buy trays of canned goods there.
We have period underwear, cloth pads and I use a cup :). But the girls are just at the point of figuring out what works for them, these organic ones were 40% off so I grabbed a heap for them to use, but it will be many months worth for them in conjunction with everything else they use :D
Great going did think it would be more but you did good...yes definitely more backin g to fill th I se holow growing boys legs...it may sould crazy but large muffins are a good filler...the sweet ones are good the boy always though they were getting a treat but a big bats of savoury always worked well...bacon and onion were the fave.. id cook up the diced onion and bacon and strech it out too a couple of large batches...lol...you know what im meaning soon enough..
I definitely need to spend some time baking more, or showing Sonnet and Apollo (who are the ones who enjoy baking) more recipes to do. I get a bit of a reprieve for the week post the groceries, they eat all the dehydrated veggie packets and things like that as snacks lol, and I can process the really time sensitive stuff! but I totally do need to bake more regularly and have it on offer. I think too, the more regularly its on offer, the less likely they are to scoff it!
Do the kids get bored though, I’m not sure I could be so rural, each to their own though. Must be amazing having loads of land though. Amazing growing your own food etc
For the majority of them, its all they know, we've been here for 6 years in June, and the younger kids don't remember a life different :D. They have plenty of mod cons too, and each other and all the animals, so I don't think they feel like they're missing out. Miss 16 is a bit of a different kettle of fish lol, but she can get independent and do what she wants to do with her own time soon! :D
the woolworths home brand pasta i find has a weird texture when cooked and the coles one is even worse. just turns into slime even when aldente and doesnt have the same flavour. the aldi ones are really nice and i buy the blue packet zaferelli ones when they are on special.... i will say thank you for pointing out the coles noodles because they are great for the price point and are now on my shopping rotation
@@OurSmallFootprint if they arent fussy, then the coles/woolies ones will be fine. just drown them in a sauce or something because they are horrible plain (i dont like mixing in my spag bol sauce with pasta and really didnt enjoy the cheaper pasta).. those other ones you bought are pretty good, i use the shells with a ricotta/cheese/spinach filling piped into them and baked in a spiced tomato sauce. takes ages to do without a piping bag though haha.
New here, but love this! I would love to find a local fruit shop to buy similar. I'm going to go back through your videos, wondering if you have processed coleslaw before? It's great and would be a good way to save your womboks
We do have pickled coleslaw on the shelves! And we do enjoy it, though we prefer fresh to pickled if we can manage it. I was going to try freezing some because if I’m putting it in something cooked, like spring rolls, I don’t imagine the texture would be too much concern!
I bet it’s nice to have a longer break for these eight week shops rather than 6. Are you going to plant any kind of fall garden this year? You’re probably plenty busy with all the house projects going on… thanks for sharing!
I think so long as I make the food work appropriately the 8 weeks will be nice, the last 7 week one was a bit of a challenge towards the end, because I didn't buy that bit extra and I left the chooks in mums freezer etc. But I think we'll be good this time! I really need to! I have some poly tunnels I can put in the beds, so I need to at least get some kale/spinach/beetroot that kind of thing in so we have the fresh dark greens! It is on my list, but yes, I've been so tied up and the garden still isnt' cleaned out from the failure of the summer garden and all that rain has sent the grass up sky high!
@@mandiesplace FX that everything has been diluted, I will buy a couple of bags of soil to top up the beds and put the seeds in that initially and hopefully they'll establish a bit before hitting the older soil, but I think it should be fine, I do think a lot of it was the heat of the compost and that should have well and truly settled by now! I definitely want to try and get some at least cover crops in so the beds are good for spring!
Nyssa could we see the custard apples( I think that what you called them) when you start to use them? I've never seen them before. Great video thank you
We have a hose that connects to a tap on the sink, but we use hot water from the instant gas hot water system for them. The instant hot water is also connected to the shower, again by a garden hose system and the washing machine uses that hose as well (we don’t shower when the washing machine is running heh) we have the amenities just in a more basic form :D
It's interesting how some costco items are the exact same in different parts of the world and others are completely unfamiliar. We don't havebthe ghee in the US for example. Does costco sell avocado oil in Australia? I like it best for cooking beause it has no taste and is considered a fruit oil similar to olive oil. Rice bran oil isn't something I've ever seen for sale here, but it sounds like a seed oil, which I try to avoid on account of inflammation promoting qualities they have. I will get joint pain every time after eating canola oil 😬
They do sell avocado oil! But it’s very expensive unfortunately, and for just spraying pans or oiling bread proofing bowls etc it’s just too expensive to be feasible for us. We don’t seem to have any problems with rice bran oil that I’ve noticed but we don’t consume it in large quantities either, not like we do the olive oil for mayo etc :) it’s more just used in the spray bottle or occasionally in a baked good :)
We make almond milk regularly, but the kids don't like it with cereal, they're happy to have it with the granola I make though lol! fussy buggers. I've tried a few different recipes for rice milk, but none of them have been given the seal of approval, I did a rice/coconut mix as well. But also, they can go through 1.5L of rice milk a day if all eating cereal, and that's a lot of milk to stay on top of when it only lasts a short while in the fridge lol.
If I'm remembering correctly, the little red things are also 'hot dogs' we call them cheerios here, they're just those little processed meat red skinned sausages, pre cooked, kids can eat them hot or cold (I think its gross lol) but the kids like them, there's not much actual nutrition in them though! Definitely a treat :D
Love your hauls! Do you use flybuys / every day rewards at all ? I know it would be a pain getting small shops delivered to your mums but have you thought about getting a second flybuys account under Darryl's name and then you could do the coles 4 week spends of $50 get it delivered to your mums and then by the end of the year you would have at least $400 (maybe more) to spend back from Flybuys dollars
Oh I meant to cover that and I forgot. I never seem to get the 4 week spends these days! But I do have a OnePass membership, so I actually made $50 on flybuys this trip between Kmart/target/coles/bunnings! I also got the $35 for the year membership offer for everyday rewards and then forgot to get my 10% off on the shop doh!
I think it totally depends on how they structure their lives, whether they work off site, how many animals they raise for their own meat and how extensive their gardens are etc. I had an absolutely horrible garden season this year and we only raise chickens for meat (and not enough to rely on only) etc
The weather in Australia has been really problematic, Extremes of Heat waves or flooding I would imagine most people with limited shopping options would have no option but to do bulk shopping of one kind or another out of necessity. I visited a friend once for her birthday, She lived in a remote property outside of warrialda nsw , Option there for shopping are limited, almost an hour drive to other towns for options . An hour drive It has a population of 1000 now back then not so much It was 30 minutes from the small town to the edge of there property, There was no grocery store back then another 1/2 hour to their driveway and 20 minutes drive into the house! Australia is mostly populated on the coast 😜 A lot of small towns are like this , I live in Newcastle lake Macquarie nsw the 5 th largest city in Australia, we only just got a Costco 2 years ago 🤷♀️ We are by no means isolated We still drive distances for deals , If we drive one hour we can get cheaper fruit and vegetables , factory outlet chicken or discounted groceries , 2 hours we can get cheaper meat .
