You are exactly right. I have a 3970010 block that is a 1980 305 made in St Catherine also.

I commented earlier, but looked further and think I was incorrect. Again, great video! Been thinking about making one similar, but glad this is out here! Interesting to see an "010" block as a 305. I thought they were only 302 / 327 / 350 because they're all 4 inch bore blocks. Great Vid!

After chatting with some people far more knowledgeable than myself about these blocks, I have been told that it is most certainly a 350 and not a 305. The 010 casting number overrides the suffix code. It was also noted that the engine suffix on the pad at the front of the block is not aligned the way it would have been from the factory, so it is suspected that the block was decked at one point, which would have removed the factory stamping (very possible as this engine has been rebuilt) From the factory there would be no spacing between the numbers/letters and they would be slightly larger. What most likely happened is the machine shop mis-stamped it C2R… but it SHOULD be CR2, which would be a 1975 350. Thanks for watching & thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated 👍🏻👍🏻

@@whiskeycreekcustoms6296now that is some detective work. I had never heard of a 3970010 block having less than a 4 inch bore, so your story makes sense.

I'd like to know why the casting #3970024 which codes out as a 307 is actually a 327?! Not that I'm complaining but......

I have a 3970010 with K10 on the driver side at the rear bell housing. And my suffix code is CMR. People have been telling me its a 305 as well. But your tread is changing my mind. Ive looked online on mutipule sites and 3970010 never shows up 305. If this number overrides the suffix code then it must be a 350. But i dont know 100 percent.

I’ve been told by several GM experts since I posted this; that a 010 block will always be a 350. The bore sizes are completely different and the suffix codes can be changed/mis stamped. I almost know for certain my suffix has been restamped at some point (when the block was decked during rebuild) because the spacing is not the way it would typically be from the factory.

Thank you for the reply. Im finding this fascinating. My front plate numbers are 141497098 all smaller font followed by a large space and larger font K0715(space) CMR. You have done some great work on your research. On my rear end of engine it has k10 next to the 0010 number. Which i think means nov 1st either 1970 or 1980 when it was casted. As i only have the engine and no vehicle to match the years. I was thinking 1980 305 with the CMR but because of the 0010 number and your amazing detective work. Im thinking i have a 1980 350 as those 350 went from 69-80. Much appreciated. I subscribed your channel. Maybe make an update video with your findings cause im sure other are having the same issues...thanks again

What happens your saying came out of a camaro and block say 0010 (last 4 numbers is how you identify) it could possibly be a block that was Originally going to be a 301/302 chev from the 1969 z28 as chev blocks come off the line of Manufacturer raw they then go through what they call finishing stage boring/decking/thread taping/ Exitora then they put the coding dating on arfter that thats y its been stamped not cast molded talking about thousands of blocks some raw blocks get get put to the side then a few years later they will use thos blocks on later model cars as you see block code 0010 but thats not the smelting and casting date as its more profitable to produce thousands of one mold of blocks and use in future cars with different crank/rods/cam/heads until then they stamp them till they get the next blue print mold comes through and continue the process do some more research now we have better technology and have Accurate dating its interesting how they did things back in the 50s to 80s

@@whiskeycreekcustoms6296 my motor has the 3970010 numbers and Gm 22 stamped is it a 305 or a 350 I brought a chrome set up but it didn’t fit I done brought 3 different starters
@whiskeycreekcustoms6296
@whiskeycreekcustoms6296 Год назад
@@charlesjackson6859 that would likely be a 350. Engine suffix code would tell you more though! Only other possibilities are that it’s a 302 or a 327. They also used the 010 blocks. Definitely not a 305 though But in any case that wouldn’t explain your parts not fitting.
