An ancient Buddha statue in Bamiyan, Afghanistan made a return in the form of a three-dimensional projection on March 9, 2021. The 55-metre (180-feet) Salsal was one of the two Buddha statues blown up by the Taliban in March 2001. The Islamic group, which controlled Afghanistan at the time, had declared the statues idols and ordered their destruction. The 3D projection's appearance marked two decades since their demolition.
