This video is a great demonstration of one of the possible techniques for designing furniture in AutoCAD. A very right choice is not to make any sketches, but to immediately simulate solid details. However, there is a more universal technique - to draw a box (or a more complex shape) to the size of the entire product and then cut it into sections and peel off all the details, cutting off slices of the desired thickness. For slicing, the SLICE command is usually used. But there are also more effective commands from the AVC CHOP and AVC SLICE plugins. Either way, you'll need plugins. Pure AutoCAD is only a base, plug-ins and add-ons are needed for real use. The simplest plugins for furniture design in AutoCAD and BricsCAD are the AVC plugins.
