Forward scanners, the ultimate safety tool for yachts?
There’s a few out on the market these days but we think this one broke the mold.
Every sailor knows what it can mean if you hit the ground and the echo pilot 3D has you covered. Full 3D coverage with an enormous range all tailored into a simple to install system that draws so little power this list the current draw as n/a!
Check it out for your self here;

Very cool bit of kit and great to see the Raymarine integration. One thing the Raymarine kit has been lacking is FLS so this bridges the gap nicely. Yer man should have had an idea on current draw but I bet he knows what it is now! However I don't imagine it would be massive as, ultimately, it is just a fancy echo sounder so hopefully well under 1amp current draw I would hope. Kind of thing you could turn off unless you were in shallow water in any event. Anyway, cool kit, thanks for sharing guys 🙂

Yeah, it seems pretty sweet. Dave and I checked it out after and the current draw is listed a n/a, I guess given the standard configuration has no real monitor it’s just a sonar and hence it’s in the milliamperes range and not worth mentioning? Still… I’d like to know too 😉 Looking forward to catching up soon guys!

Sweet kit for sure. "Sailing Aquarius" has the 2D version with dedicated screen. They swear by it, although it is an either/or with their depth sounder due to interference. Just something to keep in mind.

Great to hear, Interesting point re regarding the sender interference. Thanks for that!

Indeed. I saw the Acquarius presentation and looks very convincing. I wonder if in the end the 2d view is more effective (less confusing) than a 3D one. Also taking into consideration the two negative comments. It would be interesting to know more about.

Nifty tech. I wonder how well it work for stuff like logs, soft bottoms, kelp, etc. It would be cool for figuring out the bottom in sketchy area's in Alaska; however, many of the area's that come to mind have so much silt that transducers don't work.
@SailHub
@SailHub 4 месяца назад
Ah yeah, silt could be interesting. At least you get a live view so you can see what’s going on and you know it’s silt. I’ve used similar transducers in scotland and literally been able to make out every piece of kelp under there! But I can’t say too much about this one, as I’ve not done it - hopefully though we will get a chance this year at some point!

I’ve used a basic forward looking sonar 20 years ago, it’s surprising these sonars have not developed more and become more affordable in that time? Can it be used on a tablet? SkipRay.
@SailHub
@SailHub Месяц назад
Yeah, it’s weird how they haven’t become common place. Sadly not tablet compatible at present. Probably via a NMEA bus to the tablet if you really wanted it but I’m not confident. They do have their own monitor you can use with it though.

For the price, there should be one pair of twin sensors, fireing in sequence so they put out 2 fps .
@SailHub
@SailHub Месяц назад
There is a pair of sensors, working in unison. As for the hertz, it’s 200khz.

@4:40 "only thing I really need to ask is power consumption, all trying to save on amps". Very important to many of us, obviously not to the company with N/A, or Dave the salesman who's strangely unaware, & say's "have to check that", as if you were the first to ask the Q 🤔 Also skimmed over alarm, no mention of audible, AP avoidance, etc.
@SailHub
@SailHub 5 месяцев назад
Hey, good to hear from you again. So, I believe the amps is in the milliamperes range here so annoyingly they don’t actually state it. I know this as I asked myself after. As for the alarms, I believe it’s audible from their own screen and if you use it through an Axiom it uses the same interfaces for the alarm that axiom uses. To be fair, Dave was put on the spot a bit, he also deals with hundred of different products as the UK importer, I think he did quite well. Give him a shout at marine components international he’s a sound guy and will do his best to help you

@@SailHub All good, reminded me of many similar encounters with sales people, i.e. asking an outboard salesman "what octane does it prefer?" "What do you mean? Ummm, let me go check"

Hiya! Yeah, these seem pretty sweet. Not much to call them out on to be honest, shame it’s only RayMarine plotters right now.. but that is being picky, all in all it seems like a great set up!

Great concept. I guess alarm bells go off at the simple current draw question…. Anyway keep the videos coming great work
@SailHub
@SailHub 8 месяцев назад
Cheers Tom, yeah… the current draw is confusing although, it’s probably because it’s in the milliamperes, its usually the screen that consumes the power in sender based equipment. Given it uses the axiom screen it probably is super low draw. Thanks for commenting and thanks for the compliment too!!!

@IWANVOLLEBREGT
@IWANVOLLEBREGT 8 месяцев назад
It does not give a correct view of the seabed image is unstable does not correspond with chart depth nor depth sounder . Tried it on sand and clay seabeds in to us known areas in the north of Netherlands, the Dutch Belgian and UK coast, testing in marinas, on sea, on a lake, on rivers, tidal water with sandbanks ...so far very dissapointing perhaps with rock it works ...

Could have shown a bit more of the actual function than just blabbing about how good it is.
@SailHub
@SailHub 5 дней назад
Point taken, but how would we do that when we’ve not had enough use to put a valid opinion out there. We’re not into blabbing about how good things are without backing it up 😉 we’re just putting things out there to make others aware of their existence. I believe we suggested that we would make further comments after some proper testing.

It’s completely useless!!! Had it installed and it shows just what you see on the demo screen - a constantly changing 3D image that’s completely irrelevant to the actual bottom 😂. One of the worst boat purchases I’ve made in over 15years 🤬

@@SailHub I was interested in this kit, but given there are now 2 reports here on your video comments that its useless - maybe best to avoid this bit of equipment? Shame though, was really looking forward to installing it - now...not so much as it is $$$$ and if it does not perform then why bother?
@SailHub
@SailHub 2 месяца назад
@jimjones7821 it’s all a bit weird really. We are thinking of fitting one in our new boat for testing purposes, I find it hard to believe it’s that bad, they guys who sell it are nothing but genuine and have had no issues. But yes, I wouldn’t buy one based on the current state of recommendation!
