Landfill Hooge Maey carried out a study in order to assess the optimal system for gas extraction. The result was a combined system of traditional gas shafts and wick drains. Since 1999 Hooge Maey has been working with 67 gas shafts to extract landfill gas. In 2003 Multriwell-wick drains werd placed in the landfill. As they are placed in a dense grid, all the landfill gas is accessible for extraction.
