I'm happy you revisited this Jeff , because this stuff never gets old , it is a general reminder of how to look for gold and where to look for gold in creeks and rivers , and sometimes we tend to forget when we're out in the field , and it all seems a bit daunting . But as long as we have the arsenal of knowledge in our heads , there's always a greater possibility to come up with the shiny . I remember this hydro simulator from an earlier video. This teaching aid and the explanation by you while watching this happen is as effective I think as a pilot learning to fly in a flight simulator. This can throw any number of scenarios in your face and makes you understand what is happening. 👍🏻 🤠

Have not seen one of these sence Dave McCracon in 1985 . Good job sir thank you . I learned to pan from him. Never wash over the back of your material in the pan if you are going after flower gold. Well if you want to keep it in the pan . Blessings for this model

Love those 3d models. Novel to create situations to understand why geology does what it does (lol). Did these things for many years in my O&G exploration days as a geophysicist/geologist. So many great ideas and discoveries came from this.

Fantastic video, Jeff. There is one problem I haven't figured out well; and that is perhaps due to a lack of geological knowledge. Placer golds had to have eroded from somewhere to be present, and in the area I live, the areas of greatest erosion contained the most gold. Of course, that only applies if gold was there to begin with; but I have heard glaciers can move gold a long way, and sometimes areas had a lot of gold with no evidence of erosion because it happened so long ago things eroded away completely. In such cases, is the science of geology advanced enough to kind of work backwards in a given area to determine how it may have appeared long ago? That knowledge could be useful in determining places to look that might otherwise not get checked; or, did the old time prospectors spot check so many rivers and creeks that it wouldn't matter so much? Reason I ask is I look at flat areas where a lot of gold was found in the area of a certain river, and that same river had areas further upstream too where the erosion features are huge, and a lot of gold was found there too. Perhaps I'm really asking how far gold can move, or would it normally be closer to its source. And of course, those processes in a large gold bearing area may very recently uncover a new good source that 150 or more years ago were still covered. We can dream, but I'm curious about the above aspects of finding gold.

Good visual project! Some times tough to read drywashes and figure out where the pay streak is or imagine heavy flows. Like you say sample sample sample!!! Going out tomorrow going to look at it little different drop offs and bends and boulders 😂 I do alot of the times look right behind the boulder and under now going to look a bit away from it .thanks

Hi Jeff how much of this applies to desert washes? When you say deposition are you always referring to bedrock and false bedrock? Also does the very fine black sand streaks on the surface mean anything? Thanks.
