3D Printed Compression Propellers - IT WORKS!

In the previous video we built an electric hovercraft using super powerful brushless motors and lithium batteries. However, it wasn't quite enough to lift a person but in today's video we are modifying the hovercraft with 3D printed compression impellers that will be able to generate a higher pressure inside the skirt of the hovercraft.

Inspector gadget propellers: make sure the props are always further than an arms length away. You’ll probably want the props to be able to tilt and have a gravity driven counterweight or else when you jump, they will pull you in whatever direction you lean, not just straight up.

Simon can't build one death defying gadget without building another. Hey simon, do us all a favor and make sure you cant put your hands up inside the propellers of the gravity machine. Its pretty hard to hit the "print" button on a 3d printer if you have no hands. And where does simon find all these frozen lakes in sweden? lolz I love your humor, so I've been watching ever since..... you made hydroplaning wheels for the RC cars. speaking of the antigravity idea, there's some relevant stuff from nasa way back when. when the astronaughts were wanting to practice lunar landings, they had to come up with a way to simulate lower gravity (same problem as you) but it wasnt just as simple as introducing enough thrust this is beacuse as soon as you lean over, that thrust stops counteracting gravity and instead starts to move you side to side. their solution was to have a central jet engine that is computer stabalized so that it is always pointing straight up and never contributing to your movement, but is always fighting against gravity. i think that would be way out of scope for the video so you prolly wont wanna do that. and tbh even if you get like 10-15% of the antigravity thrust as directional thrust instead - that'd just act as a jump boost and might be more fun anyway.
@clonkex
@clonkex 6 месяцев назад
Directional thrust would be scary and not beneficial. The issue is that if you start to tip over it will immediately pull you even further over.

@martales8563
@martales8563 6 месяцев назад
The propeller gravity thing is actually a death wish it's pretty dangerous because you cannot stay upright with just two propellers as soon as you jump you will be tilted to a random Direction the thing will probably hit the ground yank the whole apparatus off of your back and then some propeller might hit you in the face or cut the limb so be careful with that you need at least four propellers controlled by a flight controller and I would go as far as suggest using the EDF propellers that you used in a very tough enclosure that will not break open and cause damage because you will fall with this thing once or twice so be prepared for it

I have not checked back in on your videos in a little while. This is amazing. Your skill set is growing and what I really like is you're learning from your mistakes. You are a true junior engineer. You show the journey that you take and how you make new paths based on the roadblocks you run into. All the younger people watching... Learn from how he's doing these tasks. It's amazing. You should reach out to Futaba or Spectrum and get them to send you new radio gear. That fail-safe issue was big. I think you should go big and build a jet pack system. Reach out to the manufacturers and see if they will sponsor it.

Just make sure the failsafe works and add an emergency switch, holding the thing and disconnecting batteries quickly is ok for typical model size. These motors up to 10 kw are no joke. Make sure you don't cut your head off with the next creation ;)

nice santa sled, santa is the goat, also a nice snow blower, no pushing tons of snow in front, other than the air. yep invert the power down logic, if no control turn all off. like a single remote power 0-max trigger. well if your lower part of the skirt plate is in the snow it will work like a snow boat. maybe make it more like a boat bottom, buster or so. well why not also a personal flying device, a prop pack.

Many were do wrong with the lift propeller. Many do only 1st stage fan which is not good at building static pressure cause it will just experience so much powerloss due to compressor surge or compressor stall. You must use centrifugal fan for lifitng. But if you want to use fan then take the concept of axial compressor which consist a lot of rotor stages and stator but if you want simple but with less effective performance compare to axial use centrifugal fan blades,take note not blower type but centrifugal compressor blade and remember keep the blade tip and cowling much more closer together dont leave a big gap between the two or youll have a powerloss still.❤ hello from Palawan Philippines!

An interesting side note of hovercraft is that they can make excellent icebreakers, injecting air through tiny pores in the ice to lift the ice clear of the water. Unsupported, the ice subsequently breaks under its own weight.
