This Gearbox powered Linear actuator is the new and improved version of my old design. This one higher torque than old one. If you want you can put the Servo Motor on the system and it would be 3D printed high torque servo/gearbox version. I also make a press, garden door or lifting table,... using this gearbox Powered Linear Actuator . The Gearbox has a gear ratio of 6:1 and the speed of the output shaft was about 2150 RPM which lowers the speed and increases the high torque. I choose to go for helical gears on this one because they produce a lot less noice than regular spur gears and the forces on the teeth are transferred more gradually. The middle gear (pink one) rotate around a 6mm stainless steel shaft which is lubricated with bearing grease. Ideally all the gears should have some bearings, this is being considered for the next moment.
The Gearbox uses a 775 12V 13000rpm brushed DC-motor powered by car battery and I got a cool results. The stall torque theoretically is about 0.5 Nm. So the maximum axial load theoritically 250 Newton. But if you use a 150-watt 775 motor, this time the axial load will theoretically be 380 Newtons. The Piston stroke is maximum 120 mm and piston speed about 30 mm/s. So 4 sec to required for full stroke. The thread rod is 8 mm diameter. (M8) During testing none of the gears broke, they were all printed in PLA. The weak link in this design however where the mounting tabs and the pinion gear used in the first stage on the motor shaft.

Right! Most 3D printed objects tend to be brittle and fairly weak, but perhaps it has much better tensile strength than I imagined.

I got one a few months back and it has been every bit as much fun as I had hoped. Just know the printer is the cheap part. All the filament you end up buying is where the money goes. I'd still do it again. If you're tight on money you might want to consider a Prusa clone on AliExpress. They're about half the price a real Prusa. I have a Prusa MK3S and it's great but there are lots of less expensive options.

You can add a sensor at the end of each distance so you don't go over. The sensor can turn off the motor in that direction so it cannot go further but allow the opposite direction and when you go the opposite direction the sensor will reset. This way you can't crash the rail or extend too far. :)

I still dont trust those rings securing the threaded rod to the bearings, seems like they could easily slip due to vibration or overloading. Which would result in the whole thing blowing apart.

yes but there was no problem as the rings entered the bottom of the screw thread. So it will have to break the screw thread to slip.

Güzel proje. Erikli sulara bakarak Türkçe yazabileceğimi düşünüyorum:) Bende uyduruk bir vidalama var şarjlı. İçinde RS380S motor var. Bağlı olduğu gear box 8:1 oranında. 2 tane 18650 bataryayı seri bağlayarak kullanmak istiyorum. Bu sistemle 10 kiloluk bir tork elde edebilir miyim acaba? Tasmasına taktığım bir RFID etiketle kedimin dış kapıyı açabilmesini istiyorum yanına yaklaşınca. Kapı 9 kg güçle kedinin geçebileceği kadar açılıyor. Şarjlı vidalamayı kurban etmeyeyim de bir RS775 mi alayım?

Deeply appreciated. Building a 3d printer, and cnc machine, typing this on a raspberry pi4 with Arduino and FreeCAD installed (not easy). I'm a dumpster diver, this is powered by solar panels taken out of the landfill. I need linear actuators for many things including turning the solar panels to track the sun. Every day people throw away the very things we need to rebuild our world. Our ancestors were not born with credit cards to survive, but brains and hands. You are very skilled at using both. Thank you for sharing, it really means a lot to me and helps me a LOT. You are very deeply appreciated.

How come your shafts doesnt have grooves to fit the retaining rings? You must have a groove or else not point and it will slide out. I think you are just pressing it against the shaft. Secondly for bearings always use Grease or the best is the lithium grease.

You could use already greased up and sealed bearings so the damn thing isn't as loud as a chainsaw. Also some small push switches at each end of the piston that moves could be connected to some relays to automatically stop the motor when the piston is dead end, I'm mostly afraid the gears or the brushed motor could overheat and get damaged real quick coming to a full stop that quick. Other than that, I really do like projects like this, you can make the piston or rod as long as you want, and maybe even build a garage door opener, would be funny to see a really long piston. Maybe an automatic window opener?? Content like this, really deserves a sub and a like. Totally did.

if you replace the motor with a wiper motor will the gears be able to handle the pressure? Talking of 80kg? or would it be best to go with steel gears?
