3D printing leather stamps could be a cost-effective solution for beginners in leathercrafting. I'm testing prototypes of bevelers, which are tools used to add depth to leather designs, using the new Saturn 4 Ultra 3D printer and resin. The goal is not to replace high-quality metal tools but to lower the entry barrier for new crafters.
The Saturn 4 Ultra 3D printer by Elegoo was used because it can produce smooth surfaces necessary for leather stamping. It features a flip-open lid, a pivoting resin container for faster layer printing, and does not require manual leveling. Various resins were tested, with Elegoo's ABS 3.0 resin chosen for its durability.
Initial tests on the printed bevelers were promising, showing good impressions on leather without breaking. I plan to refine the designs and continue testing for long-term durability. The designs will be shared for free with guild members and feedback is encouraged to improve and expand the tool collection.

Hold up over time? Heck, just print another one. If the goal is to give you access to a tool to see if you are interested in the trade or that style of leathercrafting, this is the perfect idea! Great job.

I've been curious about this, especially for novelty stamps and just starting out. I'm looking forward to the followups and potentially seeing them in videos

Dude! Flexible build plate is worth the printer's weight in gold! Super easy to install and makes a world of difference!

I purchased a resin printer last year to attempt this very thing.... then became distracted with a laser cutter because vectors are easier than 3D modeling 🤣. Thank you for sharing this experiment! It has rekindled my interest in tackling 3D modeling and making some custom stamps and tools.

Your video has inspired me so much, I am recently divorced after 36 years, have to start a life for myself - this printer that you featured has given me such inspiration to start a textile stamping business. Will I be able to get it in South Africa? Also, did all the equipment you used come with the printer?

The fact that it's actually quieter is a selling point for me lol. Would there be a way to make one that's more ergonomic to hold? I think just fattening up part of the lower area would help, but not too big to make it so that you can't see? I'm super excited about this, it's a good way to invite other people into leatherworking and without breaking the bank.

The next step would be to cast them in zinc with sand casting and an electric furnace.

I would make some much different designs if that was the intent, the purpose of these designs is to see if it's possible to get the cost per tool to next to nothing on material cost that literally anyone can afford. I'll make some much more elaborate tools when we get ready for casting or CNC manufacturing

My GF appeared to become extremely allergic to all kinds of photopolymer resin afrer half a year of work with them. So it's recommended to make some kind of sleeves for these tools, just in case not to hold them with bare hands to prevent the development of allergies. I wish everybody to stay safe and healthy!

I'm guessing in such an event a person could use tape to cover the tools or use a different type of resin, there are a number of types out there to try.

I love all your content, but when are you going to show the advanced tooling by hand stuff for the Berserker set? I'm concerned that will end up not addressed the same way the fantasy gauntlets never received a similar video.
@Princearmory

There are many videos that are academy exclusive but you have to buy the bundles to access the additional premium content. There are tons of videos in there but if the one you want is not there yet it will be added in time.

I bought the bundle. I have the elf one, the berserker one, and the fantasy one. I don't see anywhere on the site to access additional content. All I see is the youtube videos everyone can see on your channel. Where do I go on the site to see that?

@@benl6056 Really? There are quire a few ways to find it. Off the top of my head: A) In your user account menu there is a section called my courses B) In the main menu you can find the courses link C) In your user dashboard there is a course area and course progress D) the getting started page should also have some info and links E) on some of the internal pages there are F) the pattern product pages also G) the home page should have a link to our courses index H) the pattern index also has links to the courses I) There is also a search function in the navigation menu Once there, anything you purchased previously you should already be enrolled in. You'll be able to earn XP, achievements, ranks and Gems by completing the lessons within each course.

What infill density did you use for the printing? That might also affect how well the tools feel and wear over time.
@Princearmory
@Princearmory 5 месяцев назад
Resin printing doesn't have an infill setting, it fills at 100% by default as far as I know.

Hi! Didn't you get a warning, when pouring so much resin (it's over the MAX line) into the VAT? Should trigger a warning, have seen it in another video on a similar level - so you don't spill over resin when the tilt mechanism does his job? Guess there is some leeway. Thanks for the video, greetings!
@Princearmory
@Princearmory 5 месяцев назад
I just poured in the full bottle, most brands will develop their vats with this amount in mind even if it appears to exceed the max fill. I wouldn't go more than this 1KG though.

My major concern is when it fails as it can ruin the leather if you are not careful. Plus broken resin is sharp; if the inside is not fully cured then sharp and potentially toxic.
@Princearmory
@Princearmory 5 месяцев назад
Ruin the leather? You'd have to be hitting with force beyond what the tool is intended to do any real damage to the leather I think. From the destruction testing I can confirm the edges are sharp in places but it didn't seem possible for it to break skin, at least not with the resin I used. The inside was cured too, again, at least with my settings.

@@Princearmory Just going off my experiences from using resin printers the past five or so years. Different models and different resins yield different results. You also have to take in the human factor: a new leather crafter may be more heavy handed than you are after the many years you have been doing this.
