I printed one of these and it works. It sometimes takes a few tries to get the mainspring to latch - really not a big deal. Like so many have said on forums: there's not an inexpensive option for hobbyists. The tolerances came out perfect on my very old printer. Thank you for your work and generosity.

Used your freeCAD file to make a mainspring winder for an AS ST1950/51 barrel, changing the dimensions for it in the process to make it bespoke. Had a few problems with the font requirements until I sussed that out putting it in the directory of the CAD file and referencing it in the parameters because of not being familiar with FreeCAD, but...IT WORKED. Amazing piece of engineering design. Thank you so much for your contribution. Eat your heart out Burgeon!!!! Lol

Great tool you've designed. I wind MS by hand, but although at first all went ok, I've lately ruined three of them, so I'm not confident with it anymore. I wish I could make a tool like yours.

So I'm really interested in trying your tool, so I`m looking for a 3D printing service to help me. I'm going to try first a Seiko 70xx series MS. I've measured the barrel and it has an internal diameter of 10.60 mm and outer diameter of 11.81 mm. Will the 10.5 housing barrel and plunger and the 12.0 barrel bowl do, or should I customize the design of these parts?

Please head to the release area download the latest release. I have added a 11.8mm bowl. Also, I added teeth to plunger for better plunging action, it works even better than before.

I tried it myself, but it was impossible to latch the pin to the mainspring. The loop at the end of the mainspring is too small (2.5 mm) and the pin, together with the arbor do not fit in it, even after praying to the Seven Gods, Old and New :) It would help if this video would show in detail how to latch the pin into the mainspring hole.

Just to update that it does work, after updating the design (I took some liberties in designing the parts, which turned out to be problematic).

​@@Jedimaster36091 Good to know! If it isn't latching on, that means that your stapler pin is too thick. You should find a thinner one, or just use a metal file to reduce the thickness.

@@watchmakerdetective7793 In order to make it latch I had to distort the mainspring at the hook end; basically I had to make the loop significantly wider than the winder base arbor. But that kind of distortion is dangerous as the mainspring can break. I am now trying with another mainspring, which is tight on the arbor (2.5 mm). No pin, no matter how small, would fit in between the arbor and the mainspring.

@@Jedimaster36091 I didn't say it doesn't work fine. I said incomplete design. First of all, mainspring would be fly if you release one of your finger. This type of springs has similar height. So, you won't deal with fine wire height adjustment if the anchor printed with the pin. And it will be good to add a notch to the inner corner of the winding mouth to prevent it from coming out. Finally, you can put the mainspring directly without open it if the location of the barrel guard is under the pin. How is it now?

@@erzincanli I am sorry, but couldn't understand some of the ideas. Anyway, I printed a set for the watch I am working on, and my first try failed to hook the pin to the mainspring hole, even after many attempts. I am afraid to widen the mainspring loop more than it is, so it doesn't break.

​@@Jedimaster36091 I think he means to say "imperfect". As you can see in the video/WRT forums, the design is functional (ie. complete). Also, I prefer to keep the design simple, so that it is easy on the printer. Feel free to update the design and share them on the WRT/Github issues page, so I may include them in a future release if it makes sense to do so.
