Absolutely! Just skip adding magnets to the side hearts and to the corresponding spots in the core. The hearts will just fall out when the puzzle core reaches the correct spot. You can also try switching out the 6x3 magnets in those spots with smaller magnets - that way there is still SOME hold, but a much gentler shake will dislodge the side hearts. I would still keep the magnets that guide the core into its forward/backward positions. Those magnets will keep the puzzle from just completely falling apart too easily.

Always glad to help! It could fit a photo that's 15mm long on the shortest side. the roll would need to be 9mm in diameter - so the long side would be limited by how tightly the paper can be rolled. I plan to release a 200% scale version early Friday, if you need more space than that :)

I didn't bring it up in the video, but if you reverse the magnets in the side hearts, you can skip the thump step... the hears will fly off as soon as the core slides far enough to release them :) For a slightly more challenging puzzle that doesn't require a thump, check out the updated Treasure Chest Puzzle Box: www.printables.com/model/206656 - Hmmmm... maybe I should remix that with a Valentine's Day theme.

Sorry, there's not enough space for wider magnets when printed at 100% scale :( You could try printing it at 200% scale. The magnets will be too deep, of course, but they could be filled in with a little hot glue. I hope that works for you!

I recommend searching specifically for neodymium magnets, which have a noticeably stronger pull. Store listings are sometimes incorrect, so check product reviews for anyone reporting that the magnets they received were weaker than expected. Note: be careful when handling neodymium magnets, they're more brittle than most magnets and can chip or break if they slam together. To avoid that I try to add a little extra space in my models to keep the magnets from actually touching. If you happen to have some sub-par magnets that are the right size, this particular puzzle would still work okay with those. I'd save the really good magnets for other projects. I hope that helps :)

It can work without magnets, but they're strongly recommended. Without magnets the buttons won't have that satisfying springy feel. Pieces that normally require a quick thump/shake to remove will fall out freely as soon as the core reaches the appropriate spots to release them.

At 100% scale, the prize chamber is a little too small for that - it's barely large enough to hold a cylinder that has a 9mm diameter and is 15mm tall. I'm working on a 200% scale version right now that has enough space to hold small jewelry. If it works out, I plan to post it on Friday.
