I've been 3D printing for I believe about 7 years and took woodworking serious a bit over 2 years ago. I found the 3D printer to be a perfect companion to my router. I've made all kinds of templates and such for the router. A Whole lot of options!

I have a creality cr10v3 .. very good printer that worked perfectly out of the box ... ive made dovetail markers , a magnetic dovetail jig, there's a full on router plane on thingiverse, you can make custom templates for a router , i used it to make a custom template to inlay an oddly shaped speaker and a lot of other tools ... combined with a CAD software it moves away from being a novelty "toy" and it becomes an unbelievable tool , especially for prototyping

Having a 3d printer makes sense to me. Can print out what ya need for something while working on something else so your saving yourself time and effort. Heck could even print stuff to help organize your tools or containers to hold the bits and bobs every shop has but no real place to store!

I’ve have always wanted to get into 3D printing. Unfortunately my dad was a 100% service connected disabled veteran that needed 24/7 care and… he passed away recently. Life has been pretty crazy for me the past few years but hopefully I can get into it. I had never even considered making accessories like the ones you showed. That’s AWESOME. Anyway, how much would a printer like yours cost? PS: I didn’t want to buy a super cheap printer and get frustrated and give up… that’s why I was waiting until the day I can afford a better quality printer. Your prints looks great btw.

I might have found your printer on Amazon. Is yours the prusa i3? It’s like $1000. I have a feeling that whatever amount you want for yours… it’s gonna be out of my price range atm. 😞 one day tho. 🤞

I don't know what the going price is for a used one. But without shipping it's probably somewhere around 5:00 or $600. I haven't figured out what the price point on mine would be. The new ones are around $1,000.

Do you design your own tools? What file type does it require? Do you find it expensive to operate?
@WoodByWrightHowTo
@WoodByWrightHowTo 11 месяцев назад
Result design my own and sometimes I'll borrow them off of the cloud. It uses a G-Code to do the printing but you generate the g code on a piece of software that can take in several different three file formats. They are incredibly cheap to operate. Just a little pricey to get up and running.

Are those 3d printed tools durable at all? Just curious lol
@brandonwestfall3241
@brandonwestfall3241 Год назад
They're stronger than you expect, as long as they're designed and printed properly. They essentially have "grain" weaknesses like wood does.
@autumn5592
@autumn5592 Год назад
Depends on a number of factors, but in short, yes 3D printed objects are quite durable. I printed a speed square out of PLA (a softer plastic), with 70% infill (so 30% of the inside is hollow), and I regularly throw it around in my shop. It's still square, it hasn't broken, and It's been maybe a year. Now I wouldn't recommend it, but I wanted to see why everyone loved speed squares, so I gave it a go. Cheaper than buying one, faster than having it delivered. Print strength does vary on a number of things. Plastic type, layer size (width), layer height, infill (if below 100% then infill pattern), print direction (as the other commenter said, it's like wood grain), and if you finish the surface. There are more, but that's the main stuff. If you print something out of ABS, 100% infill, relatively coarser layers, correct orientation for the task, and then finish with acetone vapor bath, you're gonna get close to injection molded strength, maybe exceed it depending on how the part is designed. Even PLA can provide enough strength for most tasks. I'm not telling you 3D printing is amazing, and that it will do all you want at the press of a button. It's quite laborious sometimes, but it is a useful tool and skill to have.
@burbzilla
@burbzilla Год назад
@@autumn5592 oh nice, basically they're as good as the design
@autumn5592
@autumn5592 Год назад
