spectacular crash 😱😱 the cool factor to me about 3d printing planes is if you crash and destroy the airframe, you can just print another. no waiting for backorder'd stock or shipping from china. the gremlin design looks and flies amazing! can't wait to start printing one. thanks for the in-depth video ✌
Flying characteristics were priority #1, durability #2 and printability and ease of build #3. Inevitably, 3D printed planes are fragile which means priorty #2 is nearly impossible. But you can combat this with priority #3. The goal of a design where all parts share the same printer settings means you can print off spare $5 airframes to have lying around, and transplant your parts if you destroy your airframe. If you do your electronics right, a 30min build/transplant is reasonable. That's fairly close to what it would usually take to glue/tape a foamie back together at the field.
I love my nano goblin been flying it for years. I recently stopped flying it when I got the Nano Drak. What a difference in flight performance. It's a little bigger but you don't notice it when flying. It's a little stable rocket ship. Of course, I cut mine down from a 28 to 24-inch wingspan. 1 hour of flying was more than enough for me. I do like this Gremlin. it looks mean and ready to shred the sky. Great video and aircraft.
Ah! This looks most excellent! My OG Nano Goblin is still going strong so I probably don't _need_ another plane like it, but I totally want one of course. :D
Another tip for printing play with the line direction on the infill put 45 or 90 or whatever angle you like in between the brackets and play with the infill offset to move it around to where you want it and also the infill line count its much lighter and easier than making internal ribs
New subscriber here, will give this little guy a try when I get some LW filament. Thanks so much for all your hard work sharing your great videos with us!!!
Thanks so much for putting this video together, I am only part way though but sure I will reference this video many times going though the build. I have most parts printed in eSun LW PLA now, but got a roll of the pre foamed Polymaker LW-PLA to try next while I wait for my carbon parts to arrive. It was your initial preview video a couple weeks ago that got me excited to build this plane, and Im even more so now!
@@kibbycabbitI ended up having a cleaner print that was more rigid with the polymaker preformed pla. It was heavier but not enough to make a difference in how it flew for me.
Notamed, well done video! I may try my hand at printing one of these as I need more planes to fly... One thing to compliment is the amazing chase footage from your flying partners! 😁
The 3D Printed Gremlin looks like lots of fun. Design seems like a cross between the Nano Goblin and a Dart250g. I'm guessing the vibration you were seeing was related to balance of motor/propeller, but you'll likely never know for this test build. If your FC has blackbox capability, you could check on the bench for vibration related to rpm. Just place nose down against bench, so most of airframe is not in contact with a surface. (or collect data while flying) A very informative video. Thanks for posting and sharing.
Lucky me. I bought a goblin & a nano-goblin in Jan 2021 on sale. Even delivery to Australia was a bargain. I would have to sell my house to pay for shipping now.
With a second printer, I may make it print in less than 24hrs! Now if I could figure out how to hide this large outside seam on the wings. This seam would affect the airfoil and it changes the color of the plastic to a burnt brown. Just the seam looks burnt.
@@dsmandrewa I have used Vase mode, but this is a seam that I see in the Cura Sliced preview, just not familiar with how to hide the seam without complication.
I orient my parts such that a sharp edge (like a trailing edge) is oriented towards the back left. Then select "User specified" for Z seam position, and place it in the back left as well. 👍
Happy to be printing a fuse now layer 579! Using eSun LW-PLA, ordered the Polylite. I printed a wing first, was ok but heavy. Now using the P3/McMillan Cura settings and looking really nice with some scattered thick stringing that is easily removed. We will see. Planning on the lightest, stabilized receiver, S6R /fpv setup.Wonder if it can be laminated? When can we 3d print EPP?
Really like this plane, i would suggest to put glassfiber on it, costst about €20 so not that expensive and makes it way way stronger. Its not super hard too.
I warned you at the start I'm not a professional 😅. Just a hack who likes to fly FPV. They'll let anyone post on youtube. It sounded fine in my headphones when editing but I probably need to do more listening on different speakers to try and get the sound right.
ffs fix the sound levels! Turned my volume up for the intro talk, then got blasted by the music, and then you can't be heard almost when you talk again. My headphones got thrown..
@@shawnerick7371 he said he isn"t using high end mic's etc. and nothing about people going to complain. nothing about the sound levels or about people needing to throw headphones because no warning about the volume going over 9000 all of a sudden. Go ahaid and make up some argument so you can feel offended for someone else and talk down on other viewers. again: there is no warning in the beginning of the video about the sound levels being all over the place, wich is fine, but damn.....a little 'rip headphone users" warning would have been nice. apparantly that's to hard to understand for some people, so they'll just talk down on others instead of realising there is indeed a spike in the volume. with no warning. also: the video is great.
So I made this.......pretty straightforward. BUT YOU SHOULD REALLY MENTION THE BALANCING TABS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE PLANE. I am currently making a second plane. I balanced it but apparently not correctly. Still really freaking cool though. Only typing in all caps so hopefully someone else wont make the same mistake.
First off... thank you VERY much for your work!! I was wondering if you might have any suggestions on how you launched yours? Do you use a launcher? Hand launch? If you hand launch are you holding the fuse or doing a wing toss?
Hand launch. Shouldn't be a problem for a plane this size, and very easy if you have a FC with auto launch. I usually do a two handed throw over my head, but a side arm frisbee throw should also work fine for this plane. The Nano Goblin I launch with an overhand throw.
VIdeo editing tip, listen to your video before releasing them so you know if the audio levels are consistent across the video (i.e. make sure the music clips aren't 6dB higher than the majority of the speech)
I know I’m a bit late to the party, but would it be possible to print the fuselage in normal pla then make the wings/ailerons with foam board? This would cut down on weight and would be easy to replace.
What the ng is no longer available, my two are getting beat up… the ng must live! Has there ever been an in depth interview on the dev of the ng, id watch that for sure - flying my inav ng on 3s and my no fc ng on 2s - love em in anything under 20knts
What parts are added for the radio controller? Any good tutorials on doing the wiring and programming inc transmiters and recievers? Does you radio controller also connect to your camera or is that a seperate unit? Cheers
Im getting the ZOHD Dart 250G, the Nano Goblin is more expensive and out of stock. Love you flying, I want to be able to do some proximity flying too. Any tips or suggestions? Thanks!
I have done mine with regular PLA. The weight is 220 without any components, I would ask about the motor 1507 4150kv because it's mentioned in the specification 4-6s (how does it work with 3s? also, can I fly with this setup with a total weight of 437g, If not what is the recommended motor?
@@NotamedClosed is there a place where the assembly of this is explained in more detail? I’d like to share pics of my build to double check my progress, but I’m really doubtful about this one.
Hey Notam, looks like the Nano Goblin is back in stock, would you recommend the stock power system or custom? I am thinking to put a Walksnail or DJI Vista in it, thanks for the help?
