Should I start community about running a 3d printing business? Share your thoughts in the comments.
I'm thinking of a space where business minded individuals can share their experiences, lessons learned and be a source of encouragement to one another on our entrepreneurial journeys.

100% yes! I am just getting started in my 3D printing business, and so I certainly would benefit from interacting with like-minded individuals. As for a platform, a reddit community or a discord group could be a place to look at. I feel like it would grow rapidly on reddit as I am sure many people would be interested in a community like this.

Hi Joe. I just found your site when I was looking for 3D printer farm videos. I've owned a 3D printer for several years but haven't used it much. Recently I had an idea for making a 3D printed part that maybe others would be interested in. I would be very interested in having a circle of likeminded friends to share information with.

Hi, that is a brilliant idea. First when I found out what is 3D printer I was in high school and I wanted to explore that field because it was new, then I kind of forgot about that. Now I'm in college and I want to buy 3D printer. Over the course of last year i explored bunch of stuff on 3D printers and 3D printing and i got an idea what to do with them but i got no money🤣. It's nice seeing you and others who are exploring 3D printing it makes me happy. Keep going. Soon enough I will join 3D printing community we will grow.

Absolutely. I have just ordered my first 3-D printer and I am learning fusion 360. I have messed with Sketchup over the years during my time having a remodeling business but I have never been able to spend the time on the computer to be proficient. I had to end my business several years ago because of health reasons. I am going to be turning 50 this next year and being able to have a business creating parts to help others "pain points" as you put it, sounds exciting and rewarding. It's crazy, that you brought this up because I just listened to your video when you were talking about the different roads I've taken a business and to just start to get started. I thought to myself, i'd like to be friends with this guy because I like someone who is willing to be open, transparent, and honest. I know a small, personal business can be very rewarding and yet completely exhausting at the same time. I hope you do get a community started because I would be in.

Just found your channel and subscribed! I like the idea of a community. I don't know what that community should look like. I'm not sure how active I would be in a community where the interaction is typing based. I belong to a few discord groups and forums. I think they're great for getting answers, but I don't feel like I'm part of a community. I think it needs a different kind of interaction. Maybe if the community did a couple of meet ups (or regular meet ups) to actually get to know people in the community a little better, that would make it more of a community than just a discord group. I feel like I could have made this same video. I recently retired from engineering. I had a product that I invented and had manufactured (injection molds and sheet metal stampings). It was very expensive to produce 1000 units, with no profit in the first batch. After retiring I knew I couldn't afford to product another batch. I then learned about CNC plasma cutters. What I really needed was a CNC laser, but those are far too expensive. I started going through the process of figuring out how redesign my invention to be plasma cut. I bought a 3D printer to make prototypes. As I was making 3D prototypes, my wife asked, "why don't you just 3D print the product?". I'm so glad she suggested that before I purchased a plasma cutter. I'm almost ready to start selling the first 3D printed version of my product. I too found people don't buy from my Shopify store, only Amazon. For my 3D printed version, I got a trademark and will be selling using Amazon's Brand Registry. You seem like you're in a similar position as me (only you started your product at a much younger age than I did). I would like to be part of your community.

Thanks for reaching out and sharing your thoughts on a community. I agree, type based interaction doesn’t really build community. Sounds like we’re on similar journeys. Maybe we can connect more. What’s your website or Amazon link? Id like to check out your product!

There's plenty of them already, but they are all different to some extent. There's massive facebook groups for 3d printing, and for specific printers even. Probably several discords as well. Go for it though. I thought about it as well, would be fun. You can make it more specific to how you want it, in case the other ones aren't the same.

Sounds like a great idea. Forum depends on what type of size you're looking for, I listen to some e-commerce podcasts and they reference mastermind groups which are a little more personal at 12 or so people if that's the scale you're looking at. Could also be a Facebook group or discord if you're looking for something a little bigger.

Yes, would be interested. Although I am interested to see what others are using as their printers. For me the perfect business printer has reliable uptime and print quality and is easily serviceable with minimum downtime. Parts are readily available, and aren't unreasonably expensive. So far, I don't think I've found the ideal printer yet.

Great Idea, but the critical issue is creating a system/platform that serves all levels of engagement from novice to expert. As a long time car forum user, I've always seen this as fine line to walk. The ultimate goal would be to share the information easily to all users, the problem becomes organizational fairly quickly. For example, constant reposting of the same questions by novice users because it is too difficult to find what most would consider FAQ's. This will annoy everyone as it floods the info stream with repetitive questions which have been answered over and over by those willing to lend their expertise. So for in summary. I love the idea as a relative novice and as long as it implemented with a level of designed architecture to prevent it from becoming a complete disorganize mess like the top of my work bench, I think it could be a wonderful resource!

Id suggest using matrix. It being relatively new is irrelevant when the bar should be slightly higher anyway for this kind of community. I'd definitely join but I'm mostly a lurker until I have valuable input on the 3d printing things. If you're looking for examples of good and serious communities look at bitcoin's plebnet and their resources.
