Been waiting for this video. When I saw Eva’s video I thought the map was awesome and looked a lot like your work! 💡so when I discovered you made it I was hyped to see how you did it! Great work dude!!
@@BooneLovesVideo I finally finished it but I ended up using a combination of Google Earth Studio and After Effects instead of Geolayers. I wasn't able to add in the trim paths but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Thanks for the inspiration and tutorials! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a7LUB5GCacA.html
Great tutorial! Could you teach us how to make a map animation with the smooth transition from 2D map to 3D map? I tried it in Geolayer3 but have difficulties matching the views between 2D and 3D, each time I created the 3D landscape, it is in a separate composition. And as I rotate my world map in the Geolayer3 panel, the Camera of 3d landscape does not pitch/bearing accordingly.
@@BooneLovesVideo if you use non-studio Google earth you can add labels and markers or import your own icons with transparency, export a kml from there and then import that into Google earth studio. Using gpsvisualizer website you can also colour tracks from gpx based on various things and convert to kml and import into studio. I get tracks using overpass turbo to query openstreetmap for road paths. Ive been working on a no software workflow for nice looking maps with the above ideas. Use case for me will be quickly showing where car crashes happened for a small news channel... trying to get it to a point that someone without much experience can operate it... might be a video idea for you to show people with no software at all how to get custom paths and icons on nice maps. I really enjoy all the videos in your map series
Great question. So this is how the template is setup in the GEOlayers project. You can indeed make changes, but from what I remember you lose out on resolution, and it's not very straight forward. These GEOlayers projects are incredibly complex, and making changes like resolution can break other aspects of the project. :/
Hey Boone, Loved this tutorial and I just bought Mettle Freeform Pro (through your affiliate link). I'm experimenting with some maps for my big ride in a few weeks. I have two questions. 1) How do you apply Geolayers labels to a point if you are animating the map using Freeform Pro's Pitch, Bearing and Elevation? I can add a label, but as I animate the map, the Geolayers label no longer aligns with the right point. 2) When I apply the spotlight, I seem to get a real quality drop off on my map textures (not sure if this is some 3d render setting).
That's awesome Brent! Thanks for the affiliate link purchase. 😎Much appreciated. Regarding your questions - 1 - Check out this tutorial and let me know if it answers your question - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EBB5bb1P9nA.html The creator is using Trapcode MIR instead of Mettle Freeform, but the labeling still works the same way. 2 - I usually add two lights, including a spot and an ambient. The spot is usually at 75% and the ambient 35%. And I'll move the spotlight around so that it's shooting from the side. So does your export look low quality as well? Or is it just inside of After Effects?
Dope video, thanks for posting! Would love to hear how you set up AE for optimized playback. The better I get at using the software, the more my computer’s limitations become an issue.
I have some drone footage of landscapes of hills which I want to animate river source flowing down to the sea.. with a line I’ve seen videos of routes they’ve animated with walking routes similar to this video but in actual video footage. What would I look for on RU-vid using after effects to do this. Any help would be much appreciated.
Hey man! I've watched a ton of your videos - huge fan of your work, and you as a person. I'm finally getting Geolayers, and will start to get some actual experience with the software, rather than just watching you do it. So I'll do some Boone loves video-binging in the time to come! Also bought a few other plugins from your recommendations. Which of the 3D programs compatible with Geolayers do you recommend if I'd like to create 3D maps?
Thank you so much for the tutorial, it was really good! I just couldn't find the item to do the elevation profile. Could you guide me? Sorry for my english, it's not that good.
Hello Boone, great video. Thanks for Sharing. I do not have Mettle FreeForm Pro but I've got Stardust which should be capable enough to do it. But I have now starting point or idea how to setup Geolayers with Stardust for creating 3D terrain. Depth/Height Information just simply dose not align with the map data . Do you have any Idea how to do this? Cheers
Hey, new to your channel but really interested in building some map animations for some ski touring videos i make. I have the GPX files of the trips i do. Would you recommend something like geolayers 3 or blender? I am faily new to 3D so just want to figure out where to begin investing my time?
Hey Colin! I would definitely recommend After Effects with GEOlayers. It's going to take a while to learn, but it's pretty unmatched for the moment. 💪And it's the go to tool if you're creating path animations with GPX files.
hey, when i add lights like at 13:31 the shadows they throw are super blocky and pixelated. I'm working with the freeform trial version right now. Could it have to do with that?
Thanks for this easy to follow tutorial. I'm trying to find a way to use a different texture map rather than the default Bing Satellite for 3d Maps. I though when I hit create 3D landscape was going to used the map style I selected before but instead allways replace it and use the Bing Satellite one I don't see more options. Do you know an easy way to setup this to create different mapstyle for example one from maptiler for 3D Landscapes ? I would love to suscribe to maptiler but don't see the point for 3D maps. Hope this makes sense
Great vid as always Boone! I do have one question though, does the Mettle FreeForm Pro plugin comes within Geolayers 3 itself or should we install the plugin first in order to create that amazing 3D landscape? If I should install the plugin first, could you kindly show me the steps on how to do it? A reply from you will be much appreciated :) Thanks Boone!
Hi Boone, love your videos mate. How would you extend this map so there is no black background, only more terrain? Or is it only possible to use Mettle FreeForm Pro & Geolayers on one map tile at a time? I think this isolated look works really well, but could see when it would be more immersive to have terrain going off into the distance instead.
Hello there, thank's to this video i found the solution for a work, i've whatched all of your video on geolayer! I've got a question, i'm doing a composition for a run race, and i need at leat a 1 min video. With Geo and Freeform the final composition of the 3d terrain it is only 30 sec, even if i make it 60 sec, after 30 seconds it became black. What am i doing wrong?
Hi, i have an issue with AE. I cannot afford geolayers for now so i'm trying to import an mgjson file into AE but this one cannot be imported because it's superior to 3h (it's a gpx file from an ultra cycling race). Do you have any idea how to do without geolayers ?
@@BooneLovesVideo Flat Pack FX has a video on Vox 3D map borders effects that seems like the simplest way to do it but im not sure what the limitations are with that method. If u ever do a similar video I'm interested
Hey Jason.. Incredible tutorials.. I'm watching them over and over again to get better at these types of animations. Huge thanks, they're so helpful! I was wondering if you know of an easy way to extend the map edges so that you wouldn't see the animation as a square. Aescripts have a video of a bikepark and their landscape fills the screen ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yP5SJISXtls.html They based it on the 3D landscape project but that seems to crash After Effects for me.
