All in 20 minutes? Very nice details on the tire! Great job!

Good quality, good explaining, good voice and you dont talk to slow/fast! Just perfect ;)

Thanks! If what I think you are saying is correct, then after applying the Bend modifier too, you'll have to add segments to the box, which would effectively make the box equivalent to a tube!

Thanks for uploading this. Today is my first day using 3D Studio; I did some animation with Lightwave earlier in college, but switched to this because it's free for students :) I was about to fall asleep with the "introduction" videos that Autodesk has. Great to see the software in action.

Okay, so you do this. Make a cylinder. Then make a smaller cylinder cutting through the original one. This represents the hole. Then, select the larger cylinder, go to the Create panel, and in the drop down menu, inside one of the headings, we have a tool called ProBoolean. Click it, and then select the smaller cylinder. You will see that the larger one gets a hole drilled through it, right where the smaller one used to be. :)

Thanks :) The reason I like your way is because it makes adjustments easier!

Your tutorial is so amazing!! I know how difficult it can be… Looking forward to see more tutorials :)

Actually, it might be, but these are methods that can be compared anywhere, everytime. I like to stick with one method, which is poly modelling, but spline modelling is just another approach to get the same result :)

tools> array> rotate> set it to 360> and depending on thread (my own was 70 copies) you set number of thread copies ... thats the other way :)
@FaceTheVenom
@FaceTheVenom 12 лет назад
@ JCtheChosenone Well technically, you would need at least 3, but to make it snoother, the number depends on the size. Try making a plane, then adding Bend, and then experimenting with the segments, that will give you a feel.
@FaceTheVenom
@FaceTheVenom 11 лет назад
Okay, what you can do is, collapse the bend modifier and then attach all of them together in an editable poly. Then Select all vertices and try to weld the ones really close together.. PM me if you have problems :)

Not bad, nice tutorial for beginners! Only problem without chamfer or smthg groups tire on big renders doesn't looks so good because of sharp edges.

Try Mental Ray. It is included with 3ds Max, and I personally have no experience in it, but from the renders I see, I can say it is almost as fascinating as Vray!
@FaceTheVenom
@FaceTheVenom 12 лет назад
Thank you! Yes, that is correct, but if you try to improve that, the polygons on your tires multiply like crazy.. :D

Oh right :/ I've realized spline modelling techniques do not come as naturally to me as poly modelling. Although in this case, it would have been extremely useful! Thanks for the tip. Will keep in mind for the future!

In 3d modeling you do stuff you learn yourself if that is the way you've learned it and it's something that works our for you perfectly it's all good i just wanted to tell you or anyone else who didnt know this ;) btw. I like your video btw ;)

Thank you! Unfortunately, I tried to record that tutorial, but it ended up way too long and boring, so I just decided against it :D
@FaceTheVenom
@FaceTheVenom 11 лет назад
You could, but in most cases, I try to model s if I will take close-ups. If you use bump maps, I guess this would be possible, but I've noticed that it looks fake even from a normal distance.
@FaceTheVenom
@FaceTheVenom 11 лет назад
Well, V-ray is a 3rd-party rendering engine. For this particular tutorial, it actually doesn't matter which renderer you use :)

Nice idea, but a LOT of had work. If you have a demo shot like that with watermark, load into Photoshop and tweak the levels to get a good b/w image and filter out the greys. Then import to Illustrator and use image trace to convert to vector. Export as Illustrator 3.0 format (It's the only one 3DSMAX will recognise), and then extrude the splines into a mesh, - the rest is much the same way as you have done.

@ BioChirality This happens to me too. Try changing the axis of rotation.Else, restart 3ds Max. You could also try tracing my steps and then see what doesn't work for you. That way you'll know what went wrong. Best would be to exactly copy my steps, because I experimented a lot, so you can save your time :D Tell me how it turns out.

@ LoLwAaA26032009 Well, that shouldn't be difficult. Just create a thin tube for the diac brake base, then use the proboolean tool to make holes. You could look for a tutorial on ProBoolean on the internet. I don't have access to a PC so I am unable to help any further :( Sorry. But PM me and and as soon as I get a computer, I will reply with full instructions!

Do you have any videos that show your process for bridging the gaps together? I originally used the tube technique but it isn't working with a normal map. Im thinking I need one object to make this happen.
