New 3DS Max Tutorial on Visual Effects that I just released a few days ago.
Download the 10 video course here: www.Liveaction...
Focused around 3DS Max TyFlow & Phoenix FD 4 for Destruction using dynamics, particle simulations and compositing. To focus on how to create fire and explosions and simulate realistic destruction simulations with TyFlow tutorial & Chaos Group Phoenix FD 4.0 and VRay.
This is a 10 part visual effects course focused around creating a real live action production level visual effects shot. Taking the entire shot from start to finish, through all the production steps.
The class is entirely free, including all of the scene files, 10 videos and footage and everything else you need to do the training.
You can get the course here: www.Liveaction...
This was a lot of fun, and I'm still recording the lessons over the next few days, but I will be posting them to the training area, as they are published.
The training itself is only available until March 20th - so make the most of this training while it's available.
We shot the scene in Los Angeles on an Epic Weapon 8K camera, tracked the camera, and build a full production level model of the building, set up for dynamics and destruction.
I am supplying all of the footage, the scene assets, the HDRI, Rotoscope mattes and of course the footage and model of the 3D building accompanying the lessons. So the students can follow along with the lessons.
The files are available in 3ds max 2020, 3ds max 2017, Alembic and FBX.
The class is entirely free - and contains over 15 hours of training.
The focus specializes on on TyFlow and Chaos Group's PhoenixFD 4 - for 3DS Max to create all of the destruction dynamics and simulate the explosions, smoke and all fluid effects.
I released this training just an hour ago and it's already getting a really wide response from a lot of the community, so I thought it might be beneficial perhaps to your audience if they are interested in learning a lot of the latest techniques for feature film visual effects.
You can access all of the training at www.LiveAction...
I hope everything is going well, and if you have any questions just let me know. I'm always happy to help
Thanks for watching and I hope you find this valuable and learn from it

cool, hey, can you make a video about confidentiality on this business and skills, and where the company you work for, does or doesnt allow you to show what you´ve done? i feel like its an important topic, not sure if you´ve covered it on one of your videos

Hi Diego, I just put out a podcast last week with Seth Polansky (lawyer) we kind of cover this in more of a holistic way. My thoughts are always to discuss everything up front. If you think showing your work after the fact will be an issue, bring it up ahead of time - and push back on it. I don't do jobs 'for the reel' these days, but typically I'm going to get paid what I'm going to get paid, so the projects I decide to do come down to what I think is going to be the most fun, the relationship with that client I want to build, and of course if it is high profile and gets a lot of visibility or is likely to be submitted for Emmy, Oscar, VES awards then that's always a bonus. So - if I'm doing a job where I can't even say I worked on it, that plays a major factor. But this is why I would discuss it up front and make sure I can, because if they come back later and say only they can discuss it - then that's something I would then decide how I want to proceed. There have been studios where after a project is released, we discuss how we want to promote it. God of War was one where it was a bit of a disaster - I shared the work on my Facebook, a few big news sites who follow me saw it, assumed it was directly my studio who was working for the client and started publishing that Catastrophic FX was the sole vendor on it. Whereas, I was VFX sup for the project for specific shots. But my client was Imaginary Forces in New York. So I wasn't aware of this until two articles got published - and we had to do damage control on it. But Avengers Endgame for instance, we had a pre-discussion up front about the wordage and how to deal with press. Bottom line, discuss everything up front so you're in the know. But if for some reason, they reneg on what you agreed upon. Then you can choose how to move forward. Main thing is, they need to have it in writing that you can't discuss the work. Otherwise anything is game. I did have a project I did a few years back, where we discussed everything up front, and then at the very end, they threw a lot of major curveballs, went back on everything they agreed upon. I ended up having to do a lot of additional work that wasn't discussed, and they took a long time to pay. It's rare, and then later I posted the work and their marketing person mentioned they aren't allowed to show this work and to immediately take it down, or they could lose future work from that client. It was pretty clear that they had somehow messed up their relationship with that client, and that's why they were overly sensitive. So because they were walking on eggshells because of whatever they had messed up with that client, somehow that then trickled down to me. So that's one of the few times I chose to ignore them and post the work - because at that point the entire job was chaos, and I chose to at least leverage the work itself as something I could show. That's so rare, because I value my relationship with my clients more than anything. But nothing is in writing that says I can't - so if I am to take the work down (which I would respectfully do 99% of the time) it's purely as a favor to them. So ultimately, if nothing is in writing - it really comes down to what you want to do. You have every right to post your work as long as you're clear about your contributions. But also if you do then you might risk effecting your relationship with that client. But they have no control over you posting the work or not. India is a great example of this - a lot of Indian studios hold their artists back by saying they are not allowed to ever post any work taking claim to those projects. As a way to keep the work filtered strictly through the studios and never let their artists get any clout. There's a lot of games that get played that way. But that's also why I say, bring this all up before the project starts, and decide how to proceed from there. But if nothing is in writing - then you have every right to show your work. I hope that helps!

@@AllanMcKay so one question. what do you think is the right approach to work with a company when you are trying to build portfolio? without being disrespectful, cause i feel like most companies are like: yeah show what you´ve done, but through our resources (like their websites) and show what we do, and if you make a sale, be sure its through us. like i mean, i understand, but dont feel its artistically right.

Thanks Brian! I'm really psyched to do this one - I think this is going to be a lot of fun I actually was meant to be flying to Paris today (about an hour ago) to speak at an event. But it got cancelled because of the whole Corona virus stuff - so I guess the positive side of that is it gives me more time to focus on these videos and really push them as much as possible. I'm hoping to cover a lot of new ground with these. I haven't really seen anyone cover a proper feature film pipeline with TyFlow so far. So I really want to put a lot of focus on setting everything up right and building an intelligent set up for the destruction for this class. I can't wait to see what everyone does with this!

Elite NEET! Honestly, make the time. It's worth investing back in yourself. Even just getting up an hour early each day to learn a new skill is enough to get that momentum. There's nothing wrong with you - we all get overwhelmed with everything going on. But sometimes it's about looking at the big picture and setting those goals for "if I spend one hour a day learning a new skill, every day I am getting closer to my bigger goals, every day I am getting more confident and in learning new skills" I'm in the same boat - trust me. No time in the day to do what I want to do most. But when I look at what my day typically consists of, and ask myself whether half the things I'm doing align with where I would 'like to be' 6 months from now - it becomes easy to realize where my priorities should be. I'm making myself available throughout this time to help everyone doing the training - if you want this to be an opportunity to make the most of it - start the training and email me every day, I will gladly help you and push you and answer any questions you have. You got this brother 👊

I guess the big question is why Phoenix FD 4 over Fume FX?
@AllanMcKay
@AllanMcKay 4 года назад
Over my career I've easily created 1000+ hours of training for FumeFX, so I thought I might cover Phoenix just to mix it up. There's definitely not a shortage of training material I've made for Fume already out there so I'd rather spread the focus a bit. The two tools are almost identical in terms of execution, so all of this applies to Fume and PyroFX, and vice versa. As there's been plenty of people in the past going through my training in Fume and applying it to Phoenix as well. Fuel and temperature and smoke and all the other typical variables all do the same in one or the other :) hope that helps!

@@AllanMcKay Why was it only available for such a short time and then people are no longer able to access it at all? Also the link I got (for the expired course) is only for video 1, while it's advertised as 10 videos? Maybe it's not intended as such, but it almost feels like a scam. What is the intention here? Why not make it available longer, or even as a paid tutorial. I haven't followed your channel, so maybe you could clear things up?
