Had them all Speed Glass is the only helmet i used that did not give me headaches and swollen eyes in over 25 years welding materials, i plan to buy the fresh air one soon just to have it and try it, 3M as a brand itself is one of the best regardless of what you buy from them.
I've had every welding hood imaginable from pipeliners with the wen's lens, viking 3350's,infinity,esb sentinel,Jackson balder, jackson truesight one and 2 and this is what I've come to find out. I don't need the clearest lens in the world because I'm a good welder.I also don't need the largest lens in the world because I'm a good welder. What I do need is my lens not to fog up on me when I'm welding structural steel in the cold and I also need my ears covered because I don't like BB's in my ears after 20 years of welding so my go to is the speedglas. I dont need a clock or an LCD that is one more thing that can break when the hood falls thirty feet off of a tunnel boring machine. The speedglas took a 30-foot fall and survived it so I'm going to stick with that.
I have had a speedglass 9002x for 13 years I work 40 hours a week and it still works well while a colleague has a miller in 3 years he has had 2 miller.Speedglass is worth its price.
The Infinity screen has features that put the 3M to shame. Arc timer, Clock with alarm etc. You didn't mention this in your comparison. You did mention the X-Mode on the Infinity which allows the user to weld in the sun and in tight areas where the sensors might be blocked. You also downplayed the fact that the Infinity screen is larger than the speedglas. The larger Infinity screen makes a huge difference. Also, The infinity does in fact use batteries but the solar panel allows the Infinity batteries to last 2-3 times longer than the 3M. I do like the side view panels in the latest 3M. They can be a little distracting at first but they do tend to make the user feel less confined. The head gear in the Infinity is also far superior to that of the 3M. The over-sized forehead pad, crown pad and pad on the back of the head make wearing the helmet for hours at a time much more tolerable. I guess you wouldn't realize this if you only keep the superior hood as a back-up.
Wrench Sense I mentioned the xmode. Miller screen size is larger but with side views it doesn’t matter. I didn’t mention the arc timer, clock and Alarm because I find those useless features. I appreciate the fact that you may like them but everyone has different likes and dislikes. I didn’t down play anything it was my honest review. Some people like fixed shades some people don’t. I use my 3m in the sun no problem and it works no different then the 3m . The larger infinity screen doesn’t make a huge difference at all actually and replacement parts are cheaper for the 3m. As far as the head gear goes they are about the same. Do you own both helmets or did you just try it or did you just read the website? It sounds from your observations you don’t use the 3m 9100xx model on a regular basis. Oh and btw the true color on the 3m is amazing compared to miller. I think both helmets are close I just happen to like the 3m better. Plus the 3m doesn’t fog as much
I weld everyday with dual shield flux core.. the infinity has burnt my eyes twice now..after 6 months of use and no warning my batteries died,it has a spot in the lense that I believe is a defect and am gonna send the pos back asap it decides to go completely black with no warning as well as I'm assuming bot darkening fast rnough..I write this while my eyes are killing me ...fuck miller
I can't decide what hood to choose. I will start doing some low amp welding with my everlast and need a good hood. Thanks for the comparison video it helps alot.
Gabriel Harris you are welcome, thank you for watching. I love my Spedglass I don’t think I’ll ever use anything else. The miller is really hood to I would go with the infinity and not the lower elite if you do go that direction, you just get more options and better skins. I don’t really care what it looks like but the 3m has the side views which I love it doesn’t feel so dark and closed in
I purchased the miller for two reasons. 1. X-mode and 2. The controls look easier to use. I also have a miller respirator that I plan to use under the helmet.
I take good care of all of my welding equipment and I had one that I had to replace the viewing unit in that stopped responding and the second one didn’t work that good either it would flash and then go dark almost blinding you before starting your pass, wasn’t impressed at all for the money.
I have the 3M, love the side lenses. I use cheaters in it which slide into a really long slot, so I can adjust the cheaters up and down for out of position work. It's my first electronic and didn't see any reason to look any further for another one. I'm not sure I would buy "pretty". Not giving you a bad time, I'm more go than show. How does the solar charging feature work in an indoor shop?
Amazon has it right now for $289 over the black Friday. I just bought one and received it this morning. Looks so amazing as your welding. It is a quality helmet.
Thank you so much for this review. It was very good. I'm still using the harbor freight helmet I bought when I started to learn how to weld. Now that I've upgraded to a nice Everlast TIG welder I need a much better helmet.
I was hoping that the comparison wound include actual welding with info on how the lenses work. To compare 2 helmets and never have used one of them seems.....incomplete.
Red Sled I’ve used plenty of infinities just not that particular one. I explained that in the review. I try to do the best I can to explain without being bias. Thank you for watching.
I like the Miller I weld with it’s good ig the bb do hit you’re ear sometimes but I’ve tried the the other one my dad has an older models of the speed glass ehh I didn’t really like it to be honest
I like the miller and speedglas both top notch I have the new lincoln 4c and the miller both have true color,I also have a Jackson Truesite11 I like the headgear best on the lincoln really they are all awsome hoods
home built hot rods tools and tech b Couldn’t agree more, I have owned Miller digital elite, speedglas 9100 and the Lincoln 3350 4c. They all are good for MIG, TIG and small wire flux. The miller digital display couldn’t take the heat for a day of heavy NR232, the 9100 took the heat better Lincoln headgear is the best but for heavy welding I’ll choose my Honeywell pipeliner with a gold lens hands down.
personally have the 3m 9100 fx air so adflow but honestly love the flex view system where you have a grind lens under it yes there heaver but not that bad
Welding Junkie yea you’re correct the 5/8 is cut mode (plasma/oxy acetylene) 9-13 weld modes. I use shade 9 for tig too, and 10-11 for mig, and 11 aluminum
I owned the 3m. I compare all other hoods to that one. I just purchased the same black ops hood yesterday. I currently used a Lincoln. Its ok but will flash you all day. 3m is the best.
Guys can you weld outside with the speedglass because I'm getting ready to do a ship builder apprenticeship for a ship yard or should I just go with a pipeliner hood with a auto dark lense any input from experienced guys would be helpful
To me most important thing is the weight, 3m 1lb, miller 1.44lb, lincoln 3350 1.3lb. I recommend indoor weld 3m. Outdoor weld lincoln than miller which has external grind mode and lighter. Lincoln also can weld under the sun and it has automatic sensor of it. One morething you should know is 3m's external cover lenses are super expensive. I find out this lense will bankrupt my budget. If company offer you a cover lenses go 3m. If not buy viking.
All good info. Thank you. I find 3m lens are cheap vs Miller. Outside lens are about $30 I’ve not looked at miller’s I sold the miller I was happy with 3m
Yes you said it, but @ 4:00 you said the only thing the Miller has that the Speedglas doesn’t is X-mode which is grind mode... So I was like “huh”. So my response was yes it does have grind mode... “It’s just not called X- mode”.
Jerome Riggins no bro x mode is for the sun, it’s not grind mode that’s the only diff it changes with the sun so it doesn’t go black auto it’s a feature it has. Idk why they call it that but I’ve used the snot out of it. It’s awesome outside
But I do agree with everything else you said. I was just responding to make everyone else aware that they both pretty much have the same features. Something else I wish you would’ve touched on was the vents in the Speedglas “prevents the helmet from fogging up”. But great review Bro👌🏾
Jerome Riggins true I tried to get a good honest review I def forgot some features. People tear it up anyway it’s hard to make a video without criticizing. People were saying how do I know if it’s brand new lol as you know these helmets been out a long time I went through a couple elites. The 3m is my favorite tho
