Just so you know, this video made me laugh and cheered me up more than you can imagine. Currently modding my dad’s 4Runner which he loved. Unfortunately he passed away last week. Anyway, you leaving the part in gave me much needed laughter.
I have a huge issue with this daylight thing with 01 runner, seems your method works I'll give it a try tomorrow. Nice clean truck. Love mine and had it lifted 4 inch.
My 2002 4wd limited , pin 12 wire is all black with a yellow stripe. That was the wire that I cut and it worked for me. Same exact location on the plug , but different color wire.
Cut the black w/yellow stripe (not yellow w/black stripe as seen in other vids) and it worked !! Funny part is I did the exact same thing and forgot to plug my harness back up 😂 great vid.
Bought my 01 in 2016. I didn’t Find any info on this topic, few years later and I was thinking about how often I have to switch out my headlight bulbs because the DRLs Thank You!
I was wondering why the grey connector was disconnected on my 2000 4Runner. I just bought a 2002 4Runner and want to do the same thing. Thanks for the video👍
Thanks so much. I'll add i saw two black and yellow wires. I snipped the mostly black and some yellow one not the mostly yellow one. It worked. Now I can idle in parking lots without drawing attention
I’ve got a 2002 4 runner and really dislike the day time running lights so I thought this is great and as simple as just cut a small wire , my wire connector that you are holding is like half the size of yours ,I went to the black wire with the yellow stripe and cut it about 1- 3/4 of an inch away from the connector so if I had to redo it I’d have something to work with , after I cut the wire “ I plugged my connector back in” ! But to my surprise my freak’n lights were still on , I immediately went oh schit , I looked around didn’t see anything not working which worried me even more , so I figure we’ll I’ll just solder the wires back together and some shrink wrap , of course I’d would have to be that moment that my soldering pencil died and wouldn’t get hot enough to melt the solder so I twisted the wires together and shrink wrapped it , this at 10:30 at nite , I guess I’ll just have to live with the dang lights on for now 🤔
I disabled mine in my 2000 because I had LEDs and they would blind someone in a parking lot at night if they were sitting in their car parked across from me. I also just hate DRLs in general because i see so many people who drive at night with only those on and the stupid dash screen shining at them. You flash them at night and they have no idea why. They should either be removed or include the rear lights. Or just work like my 2000 4runner where I can just leave then on all the time and then once i open the door it all goes off.
I was able to disable my DRL's on my 01 4runner by following your advice and it worked! But now my side marker lights don't come on, even when I turn the headlights on. Any suggestions? Thanks
I think the same thing happened to me. Didn’t notice until like a month or so after. But it’s only the passenger side that’s not working for the corner light.
I think I will just wire the DRL to a switch before my next bank job. Like to have the on/off option. I have an 02 Taco and hope the wiring is the same.
Amazing video dude! I have a 99 that i want to do this on. But the previous owner modded the light with a new connector and there no longer seems to be a grey connector. Figured I go into the wiring harness but it seems to be located in a different spot under the dash and it’s not clear which one does what on the older 4 runners. Any tips?
Great video! Quick question for anyone… the fog lights on my 2002 4Runner have gone out. I thought I checked the correct fuse but I’m just stuck now. Any help is appreciated.
Crawl underneath check the bulbs, they are A weird H3 bulb, probably burnt out Or carefully check the wiring, most times its either /or the fuse you mentioned.
Thanks for the video! I did this to my 02 4runner this past weekend. Is there any way that you know of to disable the auto off function? I still find myself leaving the headlights in the "on" position when I turn the car off at night. When I open the door they turn off automatically.
So, you must not have daytime running lights then? If you do -it should be the grey connection drivers side, down behind the headlight. Not exactly sure on the 99. Let us know what you find
@@JLeeChron Is the car you are doing the video from the 4Runner 2000? Seems quite quiet inside cabin.. Is it noisey around 60mph? and comfortable to drive? Right now i own an Jetta Mk2 1.6 Turbo diesel Intercooler (1991) wich has been really reliable, Uses very very little oil as for fuel consumption on my books it really effiecent i can do easily 500km on heavy city driving wich includes lots of stops and hilly roads..very short trips.. I have had it since 2011 and never left me stranded.. BUT since it's almost 30years old the age has taken its own toll on it no Air Condition wich is a must nowdays since on my country it does get alot hot in summer and comfort is really going downwards.. So an 4Runner since i love SUVs especially those ones may be an upgrade but i'm worried it might use like twice of fuel as my Jetta does now. We only have here in Eastern Europe the Diesel Ones 3.0 TD they were brought by (UN and UNMIK around 1999 during war time) they are going around 4-5-6k ..
