I can’t thank you enough for this video my rear subwoofer is making a horrible noise I was just going to remove it and unplug it and leave it the way it is because a used one is 300 and what’s to say the used one is not gonna have the same problem six months from now but you showed me a way to repair it and that eBay part saved the day thank you so much

Good thing you didn't go with the used one. That foam material just decays over time, and literally falls apart. And I'm also thankful that sell exact matching replacement so cheap. Good luck.

I had trouble trying to remove the sub after unbolting it. The easiest thing to do is hit with a heat gun/blow dryer to warm up the adhesive ring on the bottom and then you’ll be able to easily pry the sub up.

@@DIYLifeSkillshey i had a question. If i remove the speaker grill is it possible to remove the subwoofer if i cut the inside to all the bolts holding in the subwoofer? Then i would just glue the speak cover back on if i can do it that way. Please respond and let me what you think. I want to repair the subwoofer but i dont want to have to remove the seats and all that trim. Thank you for your videos, look foward to your response

@@peterzaplatynski7332 I’m not 100% sure if the bolts are accessible after “ripping” out the grill by breaking the plastic tabs. But this is such a nice car to do a hack job. You have all the step by step instructions on removing it safely. If I have to do it again, I can get everything remove it in less than 30 minutes. It took longer first time because I had to go slow to figure out how to take things apart. I recommend doing it proper way. Also likely that grill is going to vibrate and cause additional noise and likely it’ll come loose in future due to the power bass vibration in subwoofer.

@@adhmadaloufi9798 So subwoofer foam repair kit delivery is coming at the end of January, so I'll have to time fixing everything near that time, so that I can reassemble everything back at the same time. It's bit of work to remove the back seats, rear deck, and all other parts. Hang in there, my car's back seats are all torn apart now, so I'm eager to get that all put back soon myself. :-)

Not yet. Been busy with work and subwoofer repair. Im suspecting I have to replace the broken gear and found one company that’s willing to make just one but it’s very expensive. So more research is needed.

Hey Ad, I finally got the gearbox removed and opened it to confirm that one of the gear tooth is 2/3 broken off. This is a very special shaped gear so obviously you can’t buy this anywhere. I’m gonna try to contact some gear and machinery vendors and see if they have some ideas on repair or replacement. In the meanwhile, I’ll post the update video in few days.

For the front dash speakers, can I just pry them open with a screwdriver?
@DIYLifeSkills
@DIYLifeSkills 2 года назад
I see on RU-vid videos that multiple Toyota and Lexus cars’ front dash speaker grill just pops without removing the dashboard so it could be same for this car. So you’ll have to try it and see. Looks Let me know if that’s the case. If you don’t have a plastic prying tool then wrap a masking tape around the screwdriver too by about couple of inches to protect the speaker grill and the dashboard.
@boriingz
@boriingz 2 года назад
@@DIYLifeSkills Yeah you were right. I woke up this morning and my car's speakers had a bad rattle/distortion sound. Turns out the front dash's speaker's cap was off (idk if that's what it's called I'm just guessing). I had to push down on the cap while lining it up with the hole and it snapped back into place. So yeah I just lifted each corner with a screwdriver and pried it upwards. tysm

@@boriingz Usually, the speaker cover is called a "grill". Man, you are lucky that it just popped of and you can pop it back in. Just wondering how it could have popped off by itself???

@@DIYLifeSkills LOL well you see im a young guy and love music so I was blasting the music as loud as possible and I think I basically broke the speakers LMAO. Honestly I was insanely lucky that it just popped back in, if not I was probably just going to end up taking the speaker out, or taking that little plate out. I just put a bit of pressure straight down after lining it up with the hole and it kind of just popped back in. I wouldn't be surprised at all if it pops back out.

That’s too vague. Are you experiencing any particular problem? Or are you seeking instructions on best use of AC controls?
@TheN4UM4N
@TheN4UM4N Год назад
@@DIYLifeSkills he’s talking about when someone improperly installs the AC Cabin filter and breaks off the tab that moves the air passage tunnel flap that is used for recirculating vs non recirculating. I broke mine and now I’m trying to also fix it. Involves taking apart part of the dash and glove compartment and wiggling out the bottom/side portion of where the AC Blower motor is at 😢

Can u just pop the cover over the subwoofer 🔊? And take the 4 bolts out without having to do all the extra ish? I’ve heard it is possible
@DIYLifeSkills
@DIYLifeSkills 2 года назад
That’s what I tried initially. If you watch the video starting at 4:28, you can see that the speaker grill is mounted to the rear deck with permanent plastic tabs. Attempt to lift up the grill will break all the tabs. And when that happens, you still need to remove the rear deck to reattach the grill to the rear deck, that is if you didn’t break the 4 plastic pins that stick out from the grill. For me, I spent more time trying to figure out how to remove things without damaging them. If I had to do it again with detail step by step video like this, I can remove the subwoofer under 1 hour. you should be able to finish the entire repair within 3-4 hours max.
@rickybobbydastar6534
@rickybobbydastar6534 2 года назад
@@DIYLifeSkills so you’re saying that even if I’m able to pop open the grill that covers the subwoofer 🔊, I won’t be able to get to the sub & take it out . I just don’t have the patience to do all of the extra steps for a freakin sub lol
@DIYLifeSkills
@DIYLifeSkills 2 года назад
@@rickybobbydastar6534 Like I said, the grill is permanently mounted, and you'll have to break the pins to get it out, and you can't reattach the grill without removing the rear deck. Also, even if you broke the grill pins and remove it, you don't have a way to remove 4 bolts holding the subwoofer, and subwoofer is bigger than the grill hole. So, only way is to remove the deck unfortunately.

I took off the rear seats and rear deck and it ain’t there. So it’s gotta be near the fuse box under the hood or under the dashboard. I tried googling and didn’t see any info for this model car. If you find it, let me know.

@@taro_otw sometime when I can’t find part location, I call the Lexus parts like I’m checking pricing on the part and ask for location since they can pull up the parts diagram surrounding it. If one dealer doesn’t answer, I call another. In almost all cases, they provide general location
@DIYLifeSkills
@DIYLifeSkills Год назад
@@taro_otw you can improve the question by asking for the part number for the connector that connects to it and ask where does the other than end connect. So it’ll take some creativity but there are ways to get that info.

Can I hook up a knew subwoofer to the Same amp?
@DIYLifeSkills
@DIYLifeSkills 3 года назад
Definitely but you have to ensure that new subwoofer can fit in the same slot. Also check to see if mounting screw holes will line up, otherwise you’ll have to drill additional holes or improvise with some bracket to secure the woofer in place. Also read up on matching ohms and watts for replacement speakers. You’ll also need some sort of sponge or foam cushion between the speaker and your rear deck, so that it doesn’t rattle the rear deck.
