3rd Gen Lexus GS Rear View Mirror Removal & Repair 

Clever. My GS is pretty quiet except I hear slight squeal when the steering wheel is auto adjusted. However, my Murano has all kinds of small rattles all over the car and I was thinking of doing the same. Thanks.

@@DIYLifeSkills Sent via UPS on May 12th. They got it on May 17th. I called on Fri May 26th to get an update. Said they would do it that day or the following Tuesday. Received it today June 5th. So a little over 2 weeks. I paid $129 for the digital compass version plus a 5 year warranty for $25. All together it was $169 + the cost to ship it out to them. A whole lot cheaper than buying a new OEM mirror!

Yeah that’s similar to my time line. Also price didn’t increase too much given the crazy inflation these days. Mine mirror is holding well for 3+ years now without any scratch. So their work quality seems solid. Thanks for following up.

Be prepared to be without mirror for possibly 2 to 3 weeks if you send it in for repair. If you need to drive the car during that time, then definitely get a cheap matching bracket mirror like the one I showed in the video. It’s nearly impossible to drive safely without the rear view mirror. Good luck and let me know how it went.

@@DIYLifeSkills Thank you for the info just ordered a quick mirror from Amazon. I’m taking off the mirror now and hv it unplugged but how did you feed it through, since the opening where the glasses go is very tight.

@@desiarnaz7739 I’m not understanding your question clearly. Are asking how to install the quick mirror? If so, the mounting bracket metal that sticks to the windshield is shaped in angle. The top side is narrow and bottom is more wide. The rear view mirror will just slide into the bracket. And you have to secure it with a small screw I showed in the video.

Yeah, once you know where and how to remove it, it's easy, otherwise, it's bit scary. This OEM mirror is like $600. :-)

Yes it’s the auto dimming fluid leaking.

I'm not sure which clip you are referring to. What time does it show up in the video? May be I can explain.

I don’t recall seeing such security feature for this mirror in the owner’s manual or in forum discussions . I’m betting that matching used ones will work just fine, but let me check the owner’s manual PDF file and get back in few minutes.

I just checked the owner's manual, and they have no mention of security settings for mirror. That said, I also have 2008 Lexus IS250 with the mirror that is going bad. I'm not sure up to what model year the connector and the metal button that mounts on the windshield are compatible. If you get an old one, you have a strong probability of mirror becoming like this after about 15 years. You can read all the replies on this video, and I think all had gotten their mirror back in about 3 weeks except for one during the pandemic probability during parts shortage time. I would get it repaired for around $130 if you intend to keep it long time. If you are going to keep it less than year, you could get a used one if it's cheaper.

@@DIYLifeSkills Thx for your super fast reply. Mine's a '08 GS350, started getting the " freckles" AND it detached last week. Just got this stuff: Equalizer Kling On KMK 630 adhesive kit. It's supposed to be good. Did you have to struggle to get the connector to come out? Oh, BTW, during the time the mirror was hanging, I took some pandemic face masks and used the bands to hold the mirror up, stuffing the mask portion inside the sun glass holder.

Did you get the mirror fixed? I noticed they get worse over time.

@@DIYLifeSkills no. it’s low on the priority list. I seafoamed it, cleaned MAF, and cleaned throttle body. Thanks to your videos. I cleared my codes after. So now I’m waiting to see if they come back.

@@XTheJenovaProjectX Oil consumption? I'm using about 1 liter per 1000km. Last 1500km ive had seafoam in the crank case. TBD if it helps any. Will also likely try it down the spark plug hole. And will check for external leaks, if I can't find any visually, I'll try using a dye.

They are not fast nor do they respond to any questions but they do a really good job. Read other comments to see their experiences. It’ll probably take 3-4 weeks for the entire turnaround time so be sure to get a cheap temporary mirror for that time.

eBay would definitely have biggest used part inventory but you'll have to deal with shipping cost and delay, and headache of returning. I would check local salvage yards for inventory and you may get best price from them, but you may also be asked to extract the part yourself. Craigslist doesn't have big inventory of parts for specific cars, but sometime you could find some here as well. Which used parts are you seeking? Some are quite OK to go with aftermarket parts, but if you want to maintain all the functions of rear view mirror, you won't find aftermarket replacement. This company I mentioned in the video does really quality mirror replacement work...just have to wait few weeks for turnaournd.

That is outrageous. Wonder if pandemic effected their supplies, which I’m sure are coming from China. Regardless, they need to communicate with the customer. Though they rarely communicate with users, they’ve successfully completed the work for many, including me in the past. Let me try to reach out also.

Yeah music preference is too subjective to individual taste and I’ve been not using music for the most part in new videos.

Are you asking side mirrors? For these I saw they sell just the replacement mirror. I also saw someone selling replacement gear of broken.
