The musical short from the TV show 3rd Rock. Sung by French Stewart and special appearance by Randy Newman. I do not own this material... No copyright infringement intended.... kudos YBYL Productions.
Harry is my spirit animal. French Stewart really did a great job on this role. He's always my favorite every time I watch the show. Just happy to be living, what a luxury 😂
Harry … French is a massive talent and this was one of the best moments from one of the greatest comedy shows ever. If he never does another thing French Stewart can rest very very happy.
I've seen some production footage from this incredible number. Notice that the whole sequence before he falls down the manhole is one continuous shot - it took a lot of takes to get that down. These are true professionals who can make every take look so sharp and fully energetic. Beautiful end-product.
I love Harry 😂 He's so happy-go-lucky and optimistic about everything. He always looks on the bright side of things and he's just happy to be on Earth on the mission no matter the problems he faces.
This group was so perfect as an ensemble and individually so for me I can't pick one favorite I mean you got Dick, Harry, Sally, Tommy, Mary, Nina, Don, Mrs. Doubtcheck, Vicki, The Big Giant Head, Dick's college students etc. There's just too many classic and funny characters to choose a best one.
That is his real voice. French Stewart did play on Broadway. Quite the talent. There's a reason he was on that show and John Lithgow work well and chose him.
When I was a kid watching 3rd Rock, I always thought the order of who had the most entertaining dream sequence to the worst was: Dick, Tommy, Sally, then Harry. As I got older, I absolutely fell in love with this scene and song and watch it all the time. Harry is #1 now!
3rd Rock's so timelessly funny! I wish it would get more attention that Friends seems to get all of smh. Much funnier show with more consistency and a perfect cast! Other hilarious shows that almost never get the credit they deserve and have such amazing casts of characters are Becker and King of Queens.
From one of the best episodes of a brilliant sitcom, the 3D dreams sequences! How fun is this, and so much was done in one take on that street set. Great combo of music and visuals and singing and costumes. I love the show in general but when they were able to go beyond "the sand box" of their writing and acting for a little while it was basically a guarantee of a great time. I just learned this song was recorded by the great Bonnie Raitt. Had no idea.
First time ever watching this show by the seasons, and I saw this episode for the first time last night lol. What kind of weed were the writers smoking when they came up with this? 😆 must have cost a damn fortune with all the special effects.
Apparently the network forced the 3-D gimmick on the producers, so they decided they'd make the sequences so weird that nobody would bother them for it again. And yeah it was $1.5 million on the production, and they spend $10 million promoting it with the 3-D glasses.
Ok, ha, just answering my own question here in case anyone else is curious cause I just looked into it; and the answer is WILD. This is from a musical Randy Newman wrote in 1995; and it was a modern interpretation of Faust and the cast was unreal Mephistopheles: Randy Newman Lord: James Taylor Henry Faust: Don Henley Angel Rick: Elton John Margaret: Linda Ronstadt Martha: Bonnie Raitt Album is called FAUST and it’s in all the music streaming platforms. ENJOY.
But the song 'Life Has Been Good' wasn't sung by Randy Newman, right? (I just started listening to it on this video; ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3IeKYAUWX1U.html)
This was one heck of a set piece, like a proper stage production. They certainly put a lot of work into this show. I was in 3 productions at high school which we rehearsed and developed to a pretty high standard. I always remember that feeling of being in a close nit group and creating something cool, mingling with the audience after making something special. I'd imagine professional actors get the same feeling when putting on broadway or any shows and musicians with concerts. I wonder if it's the same when they make something like this for tv.
They were 3D glasses that I'd never seen before: one side was black, the other side was clear. It was that contrast of light and dark and constant motion that gave this illusion of depth. Neat effect. And if you ever wanna see the 3D, just take a pair of cheap dollar store sunglasses and knock the right lens out.
This was done with pulfrich effect glasses, notice it's always moving sideways. You can see this in 3d like it was broadcast if you look at it but cover one eye through some sunglasses. That's how it was done then, the glasses they gave away at the grocery store for the special event had one dark lens. I think I might still have some of the barqs glasses.
Third rock was one of the shows who i now call antique. They are not made like this anymore. maybe not everyones taste, but also married with children was a show i love. they maybe took a lil further when it came to the humor. but third rock is a category of it's self. shows today are a 3 of 10. and thats the good ones. third rock is up on the strong 8. this is ofc my opinion
FANTASTIC!!! Never saw this before... only came on it while searching for the episode where Dick teaches Mary how to dance and he and Nina win a dance contest
I have a channel on my TV that has replays of a lot of good old shows, like night court, 3rd rock from the sun, tool time, and that 70's show... I love that channel.
Really? My TV has lots of channels. Haha. And the over the air "poor people" TV station you are referring to is Laff. Matter of fact they played this episode yesterday afternoon.
@@iamconnor5907 Yeah, it does. They show at least 2 episodes (may be more, I usually watch something else during that time slot) before two 3rd Rock episodes come on every day.
Think you're talking about LaffTv, I don't have it anymore unfortunately but I still have METV, Antenna Tv etc. I wish they'd air 3rd Rock and Night Court.
I've wondered that, myself. I didn't see anything in the credits, though I've often wondered if his wife at the time (Katherine LaNassa) was the correographer. She is (or was) a dancer/correographer.
The clothing French Stewart is wearing is late 1920's early 1930's... The music genre... I'd say ragtime... been 20+ odd years since I've any formal musical training.
This scene is from the “Dreams” episode. I think it was the first season finale. The aliens get scared when they have dreams for the first time, until they discover that it’s a normal thing for humans.
do you know the other song thinking thinking... when he sings it with mrs. Dubcek I found out that the melody was created by Merv Griffin and it's name is "Think!". Please show me a link to French Stewart singing it. :)

This was written for a musical originally, an irreverent update of Faust. It was the song of the show's bad girl, who manages to break the heart of the devil himself. Bonnie Raitt sang the part on the all-star album. (Linda Ronstadt was the good girl.)
