This recording tells the story of Blondia Gobjilă, a woman born in 1906, into a priest’s family in what is now the Republic of Moldova. She experienced the drama shared by many Romanians who could not return to Romania in 1940, after King Charles II decided to withdraw administratively from Bessarabia following the ultimatum of the Russian Bolshevik regime. Reading her testimony, I was struck by the remarkable strength and patience of a single woman who was persecuted beyond resistance. Inspired by her resilience, I decided to translate her story and share it, hoping that many will come to appreciate what they have and find support in carrying their own cross, whatever that may be.
