4,5, R.E.M. Shaking Through and Laughing, Live 1982, Merlins, Madison, WI 

So there is this big hill at the end of my 6 mile run which I do three times a week. I always listen Murmur on the run and to Shaking Through while running up the hill. No matter how tired I am, the song carries me up the hill. Best REM song and this early version is particularly special. Thanks for posting!

This is the good stuff. It's timeless. The passion in his voice. It's amazing to me the music they made. Saw them 3 times on the Green tour.

True story, Butch Vig (garbage, Nirvana) actually did sound for this show. I had the bootleg cd when he told me. Small world!

Didn't know R.E.M. was playing Wisconsin colleges back in 1982. This is a great post, and the sound is great. Way before they got big.

shaking on murmur is my fav rem song. great to hear this early version, its better than the murmur outtake. laughing is good too, closer to the final version than shaking. this show has such a classic 'college radio' era vibe!
