I assume the loin cloth was painted but the skin wasn't. Could the wood be the same skin colour as that of Egyptians of that era? Also note how the subject puts the left foot forward even despite the sculpture's unusual realism - he still "walks like an Egyptian".
I bet whoever made that 5k years ago was just a normal guy or girl doing that as a hobby and people just never realized a diamond human was among them like today . I saw this statue a few years back. This and a few others at the Cairo Museum were intensely moving. I felt as if they were communicating with me across thousands of years, as if they were inhabited by spirits. I'm not suggesting they were. I'm just trying to convey the artistic power that went into them. A visit to this museum and the nearby pyramids is the experience of a lifetime.

fun fact, the left foot is in front because they are "stepping" into the afterlife. This statue allows the Ka (what we call the soul.) Mastaba were tombs that normal people had while pharaohs built bigger tombs. This scribe fulfilled the role of writing and reading hieroglyphics because no one knew how to read them, even back then, so they would call on a scribe to interpret them. HE WOULD HAVE TRAINED SINCE HE WAS A CHILD AND most likely scribed his whole life. This statue was most likely only viewable through a small window at the head level because the Ancient Egyptians put the KA statues in their own chamber.

Do you have any proof that can be pointed to as concrete evidence? As of now it just seems like you are claiming other cultures achievements and history as your own.
As a sculptor this blew me away! I was drawn to the eyes right away & trying to figure them out right up until the end. Absolutely amazing. Thank you for sharing this & more importantly that little tidbit at the end.
Thank you for your comment! It’s always nice to hear from people who know how difficult this level of craftsmanship is. My sculpting experience is almost nonexistent but I have some painting experience and looking at a Rembrandt just blows my mind, so I know that feeling lol! Knowing the materials used helps you not only understand the piece and the process better but can help you with your own work too if they’re materials you also use, so I’m glad that part had value to you! 😁
Hm. Eyes shaped like mine. Feet and hands shaped like mine. Nose shaped like mine. Then here I come saying an Egyptian statue resembles my features, (not just my skin color), and some how that’s got y’all shaking in your sandals. Heads up, all that shit was ours😉 However I’m a proud American🇺🇸 and proud to be a descendant of the slaves who built this country, just as I’m proud to be a descendant of the people who built yours😂 If you know Americans as well as you think you do, you’d know if we wanted the land and the culture, we’d just come and take it😅 Relax. WOW. This is masterpiece! It's so lifelike. So impressive! Egypt is really so magnificent still, i won't ever fathom how magnificent it must had been back when they were recently made.
these statue makes me realize that they dont look so different from us today which is obvious but seeing it visually presented makes me realize that they arent as unknown as we think they are
@@nickb3345 I think he leans a bit more towards eastern Mediterranean/Levantine. Good features, and he obviously ate well! 😊 Amazing to see a true to life depiction of someone from that time (as opposed to a stylized artistic piece).
The funny part is that the Statue looks strikingly like Egyptian actor and director Abdel Gaffer Ouda. The actor became very famous in the 70s and 80s. People can google his photos (but make sure you add Egyptian actor and director to the name as people will get too many results of a different Abdel Gaffer Ouda) also there is a photo where he played the character af an ancient Egyptian in a period drama were the resemblance is just uncanny

Ancient Africa was far more advanced in many ways an arts. Science an history that we have been taught in the West are full of half truths an lies......in many instances the truth was hidden from us to push certain special interest, sound familiar? The people in power are still very busy trying to mislead the common folk........

That’s not a statue it’s alive! Not even today do I see much art work out where it’s this creepy and cool… it looks like a person with a really good latex wood mask and suit.
