FAQS I always get about my early wake up : ❓What time do you go to bed? I aim for 7 hrs a night. Recent studies have actually found 7 hours an ideal time and I agree! So I try to be in bed at between 9:50-10pm ❓What do you do if you have a bad nights sleep? I still power through and wake up at the same time (consistency is the key to the internal clock.) But then I'll shoot to get to bed early the next day. ❓How long did it take to get used to waking up earlier? So I've had to readjust my internal clock a few times, most noticeably after I had my kids (no I don't wake up at 4:50am with a newborn). I usually find it takes about 3-4 weeks for the wake-up's to start to feel a tad easier. But ultimately it's consistency (sticking to the same wake up time every single day.)

I did my thesis on sleep hygiene and consistent wake time was the number one habit that was shown to positively affect restfulness. And short power naps as longer naps are correlated with symptoms of depression. Great job girl! I am an aspiring new mama!

As a mom of two, I've found that early mornings destroy my mental health. Anything earlier than 5:45 makes me feel resentful and grumpy for the rest of the day. I just need 15 minutes to wake up before the kids and make my coffee, and then I'll include the kids in the rest of the routine. My mental health necessity comes at 2pm when I do 15 to 20 minutes of meditation to reboot and get through the rest of the day.

I love that you can pin point this! I hope and pray every parent has the ability to identify what they need and not just follow someone else's routine! 🤗🙌 The idea is still the same: Getting time to ourselves before the beasts arise makes a HUGE difference in the day!

Glad someone said it. I feel the same way. Except for me it’s anything earlier than 6:30. I just can’t ungrumpify myself if I have to get up earlier than that, no matter how hard I try. I still have to get up earlier than that sometimes if my baby gets up, but I still feel moody. I have absolutely never been a morning person and I just never will be.

I'm unemployed due to major depression and I already have trouble juggling two cats. I wake up at 11 am. Parents do morning shift on the cats. I stay awake til 3 am out of compensation. I don't know if I could ever handle children. I don't know why one has to wake up at five?

For something is the most energizing time to be alive. I used to wake up at that time and have a whole day before 8AM in college. As a mom I now can't fall asleep until 6AM when my toddler wakes me up at 4AM. 🥲

@@Misshighness444 I remember all too well!! That’s why I take naps now. I’m happily retired and the our kids are grown (24& 22) and on their own. Those first two cups of coffee in the morning alone were my personal nirvana!!! The youngest didn’t sleep through the night until she was 3!

Yup, my mother in law wakes up before 5 since years. It's impossible to spend time with her, at 18 she's already tired and getting ready to sleep, while we our 2yo goes to sleep at 20... Needless to say, they don't get much chance to even talk over the phone, as we are back home at 17...

Yeah but that's like saying when you eat dessert before you know it, it's gone.. this season is SWEET! And we don't love fresh flowers because they last forever, we love them more because they are real, beautiful, and we know they won't last forever. This season of never ending work will eventually end and my house will one day be still, quiet, and stay clean....but that day is not today and for today I'm going to hug and not be the first to let go, read aloud until someone falls asleep, and keep cleaning, moving, doing what needs to be done. I'll be tired at the end of the day so I'll sleep better, and then I can wake up and do it all over!

@@maryclairechittwood1852 true. So true. And when its over, its soooo quiet and you miss it. You miss them. And its hard not to get depressed and suffer from lack of purpose. Easy to do when you have given your whole life to something. But, you have to realize, they will still need you. They will always need you. And you have to think of what your new purpose will be. Something you want it to be. Something thats for you. And theres always grandkids.

I personally a night person. I am trying to get myself into mornings. If I have to 3 coffee, sluggish I do get stuff done. At night I don't have to push, I just have to make less noise. Clean the kitchen, clean the bathroom, separate the clothes get things ready for washing day. Of course everything goes out the window, when I have chronic strong pain. Pain all the time is normal for me, I work through that, but the other knocks me to the bed.

I get to bed at about 10 pm, I get up and do something after 30 minutes. Try again at 11pm, get up and do something else. At about 12, is when I finally can get to sleep about 12 to 20 minutes 😴. 😴 Get up @ 5 am make lunch and coffee for Dear Husband, run to take 1&½ hours sleep. Make coffee and lunch for my youngest send her or take my children to school. If in pain go back to bed, if pain level is tolerante, drink coffee get started.

I have pain too. In morning my feet hurt, and it's not uncommon to wake up to the beginnings of a migraine. Usually by night I'm feeling better. It's hard to go to sleep knowing how rough it will be. Otherwise, mornings would be preferable.

I've tried 5am but it's not for me. 6am is my sweet spot. I find I do best when my routine is based on sunrise and sunset times. I never close my blinds so the sunrise wakes me up.

Yea this only works if the sunset and sunrise is relatively close to the same all year round. Good luck waking up at 4 in the morning and going to sleep at 1 am in the night lol. And then in the winter going to sleep at 4 pm and waking up at 8 am xD

This is when it gets tough for me. I live in Northern Ontario and in the winter the sun rises very late, making it difficult to get out of bed and feel energetic. I recently bought a smart light bulb, I'm going to see if that helps me get up if I set it to slowly brighten in the mornings.

@@KaitlinLuksa yes! I have a light for depression in the winter and it helps! It’s very disheartening to get up in the dark ( sometimes driving to work in the dark), then coming back home in darkness.

It’s funny how 4:53 a.m. sounds sooo much earlier than 5 a.m. I get up at 5 a.m. everyday with my three kids. I hate being in a rush to start off the day, it sets your mood for the entire day. So we wake up early and have time talk and take our time while getting ready for the day.

Same! And it's the worst..so I stay in bed as much as I can. By the way, 4:50 is night, not morning..but nowadays it is cool because "influencers" do that. It is not sustainable unless you go to bed at 8pm...and what about those days you can't? Nope, it is not for me...I leave the "cool stuff" to the RU-vidrs making "content". I prefer to feel fresh and not grumpy all day and really be focused when I play with my kids

They're exactly how I started walking up really early too..I needed that quiet time to myself.. my girls are grown and moved out.. They are 19&21 and I still get up at 4am and watch the sunrise drinking my coffee:) Best part of my day for sure!

My mom has woken up at 4:30am everyday since her 1st child started sleeping through the night and then so could she. She gets up, has her morning coffee and reads her Bible. Despite the fact that I am 25 yrs old and her youngest child she still does it to this day

My mother raised 12 children, and was up most mornings around 3am. She did go to sleep nightly at 8pm, and took a mid-day nap with whatever kids were home and still napping.

Listen to the Bible during the day with audio Bible! It really helps! You will be amazed how much scripture you memorize! See the Lord CAn and DOES use technology for His Glory :) a lot of bad out there but a little good. Having the Bible read to you all day is spiritual food. Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God

Same. I wake up anywhere from 4:30-5 every morning. Today I said I slept in because it’s Saturday, but I woke up at 5. 😂 That quiet time is essential. I’m a much better mom/wife because of it.

Impressed! And I’m going to work on this. Usually if I get up this early I have to take a nap during the day. Then I can’t fall asleep at night, but the nap happens if I sit down AT ALL. I just fall asleep. The other important thing to squeeze in is some Bible reading! Absolute BEST THING you can do! 😊

If you fall asleep just when you sit down maybe you'd like to ask your family doctor for a check on sleep apnea. I have chronic depressions for more than 30 years now, don't get much sleep at night due to it, feel incredibly tired every day... and still do not fall asleep when I sit down, never happened. The two people I know who "could" do that were diagnosed with sleep apnea. Bible reading doesn't work for me. Borderline not boring enough to make me fall asleep before my thoughts are starting to wander off.

When I used to wake up before dawn to work and then also do it on my days off by habit those were my happiest days. It is so peaceful at that time.

@@val8263 waking up even half an hour later than my usual wake up time really throws my day off! It makes me feel completely out of sync and not happy at all! I feel like my day is ruined, if I get up a bit later, which is a bit ridiculous really when you consider my get up time is 4.24am! I love getting up early, it’s the best time of the day. 🌅👍🏻

I had no idea anyone actually had the same routine as me! I get up at the same time because it means I’m out of bed by 5 and I can get washed and dressed, do my yoga or any computer work, set up any laundry or washing up routines for the day and finally get my daughter out of bed and ready for nursery with me. That hour or two in the morning before anyone else is up has been a real life saver for me. So glad you posted about it!

I enjoy the peace and quiet at night. I use to be this way but I found that my kids can sense when I wake up this waking up early and ruining my peace in the morning. Now I stay up late. At first I felt guilty doing it. But it’s helped me a lot mentally. Even just laying in bed with a book helps. It gives me time to wind down and shut my mind off for the night. Plus I don’t have the anxiousness of the kids waking up any minute. Everyone’s different I suppose.

Relate! I get up at 5:30, but this is basically my exact routine. I’m a Mama to a 5-year-old and a pair of 18-month twins, so things get chaotic quickly, and without this time to ease into the day and set up my “systems” things rarely go smoothly.

I do 500ml of water to 2 tablespoons of 100% almond butter. It's the easiest!!! But you can look up recipes online too.

When I worked, I got up at 5 am every morning. I caught the bud to work. Worked 1st job teaching special education from 7am-3pm. (We never had a real lunch break because we had a self-contained class and had to eat and watch our students.) After work, I’d run across campus to get car (husband drove to work) drive home to pick up son, then drove back to work night job. After work, I’d have to sometimes cook dinner but most of the times we ate at work (MIL would cook for husband and give enough for him to share) We’d get home between 9:30-10pm. My husband would watch tv until 1 am. It usually kept me up cause I’m a very light sleeper. I’d get about 4 hours of sleep each day. Weekends were for cleaning. Usually Sundays, we’re meant for cleaning. I’d scrub my floors and clean my carpet, then do laundry. Saturday’s we’re family days. We would have a family outing. I’d often bring a student with us. My students were low income and hardly ever got to do things. Life was good! 💜💕❤️

Ratio is 4-5g of almond butter to 100ml of boiling water. Depending if there is already salt and sweetener in the almond butter or not you add both to taste. Blend all for 30-60 seconds on highest speed, put into air tight container, let cool off and refridgerate.

4 cups water, 1 cup soaked almonds (do a quick soak with HOT water, or soak IN THE FRIDGE for a few hours) slip the brown peels off if you want to make fine blanched almond flour with the pulp. Put the 4 cups water and 1 cup soaked almonds in the high speed blender for a few minutes. Get a nut milk bag and strain it or I use a fine mesh tea strainer into a 1/2 gallon mason jar. Add a pinch of salt and splash of vanilla extract

I used to like late nights for this reason. The kids are in bed and it’s finally quiet, and I can have me time, and get things done. But that only seemed to keep me in a cycle of not getting things done in the day due to being tired. Switching that to earlier mornings was definitely the game changer. (You’ve gotta get to bed early for this to work though!)

Glad I'm not thr only one..lol.. anywhere between 415 & 445am 7days a week. % I absolutely love it. I love that quietness before the house comes alive & gets noisy. Even now with kidults (adult kids) who work from home & a husband who works from home-- it is definitely a must do. A quiet cup of coffee, yoga/mobility (love this), & breakfast prep or beginning the food.. Same with getting dressed/cleaned up. It just helps me feel better. If I get up when everyone else gets up-- I am a grumpy & feel way behind or rushed.. weekends I get a small 15min "nap" because everyone sleeps until 8am or later..lol. so I read & tend to doze off.. & it feels great.. that 15min is a big boost.. even as a single mom, I got up early & needed my time. Bedtime is no later than 10pm (but more like 930pm..) plus, studies have shown that your body does better if you stick to a consistent sleep routine & schedule..& don't change it for weekends or days off.. unless you get less than 3hrs of sleep or have been/are awake for large(r) timeframe like 18-24+ hours.. good for you for finding that right balance for you, & putting ypu/your mental health as a priority!!

Great advice for morning moms. I'm a single night mom so I always keep kid friendly healthy options for my kids along with a to do list on a whiteboard. I do self-care and other things at night. Then wind down with a movie and tea. After 5p is my sweet spot. Sleep by midnight the latest and out of bed by 930am. Schooling, brunch, etc starts at 11 am for our family.

Loved my 5am wakeups before kids, but now with a toddler that still wakes several times throughout the night I need every drop of sleep that I can get. Hope I can go back to this when they're older and I'm sleeping through the night again.

Some of y’all need to read “the 5am club” Getting to bed after your kids go to sleep (if they have a timely bed routine) makes waking up early to focus on yourself before the kids much easier! It’s best for your mental health. I think everyone has a burn out moment in their day but that can be aided with a treat of your choosing (a coffee, some meditation, a phone call to a friend or family member, a snack, 10 minutes reading or playing a game on your phone or watching some YT shorts etc..) it takes pushing yourself to try something new and then after stay motivated to continue. It’s worth it :)

I’ve had the same problem. I was doing a lot of research and the most helpful thing is to move your schedule 30 mins up(you do everything 30 mins earlier) the research said 10 mins - but 30 worked for me. It’ll take some dedication on your end. But you can do it!!! Good luck🤗

@@user-pt1cz4ot1e ADHD is my problem as well! What helped me on staying on task is righting a list of things to do (not a long one) and TRYING to complete or at least do most of it. Try to look at the list as often as you can - that would be a good reminder. You can do it! Don’t give up!!🤗

If it works, it works. I never regret getting up early and being productive-for myself and my family. I feel more relaxed and ready to be there for myself and others. Exercise/any movement-yes! Even 5-15 minutes add up and make you feel great mentally and physically

Another bad thing is I’ve always needed more sleep then my kids. I need 9-10 hrs. Rly I do lol Once u take away naps, that’s about what a kid sleeps who goes up at 9 and gets up at 7 or 7:30. I’ve had some teens who never learn to sleep in too UGH the ones who do I just love more😆 -don’t believe that myth bout teens sleeping in (unless they’re up stupid late and I need downtime so that ain’t happening)

I could do 5am back when I consumed caffeine. I felt convicted to allow my body to regulate itself and I feel so much better. I'd love to get up early again but it is wayyyyyy harder to do (for me) without a stimulant

I wake up 30-60 minutes before them - whichever is closer to my body’s alarm clock. I need my sleep too! But my morning routine seems a lot simpler. I pick their clothes and make their lunch before they wake up. Then I’m free to help out with their breakfasts and any other random things that come up. Their morning routine went from being a stressful 1.25 hours to taking about 30 minutes max giving them extra time to just chill before school. It’s been huge for all of us.

So when I’m working I actually also like getting up early (like 5ish). I really value that time to myself and I can get so much done. But on the weekends or on holiday, I usually wake up when my 1yo gets up or very shortly before. Zero motivation to wake up earlier haha. I can get stuff done while he naps 🤷‍♀️

I start work at 7am, have to leave home at 6:15 tho. Trying to wake up that early never works cause my boyfriend is a chef and comes home at around 23:00/00:00… so usually I just get out of bed at like 5:40/5:50, shower and brush my teeth and then I’m off to work already ://

I love this time of day, to see the sunrise is really beautiful and my pups (they are My babies) are super chilled out at that time. Which makes my day easier. My partner does shifts so it's not great for me as my routine changes every week 😕 but the early morning wake ups are good for me.
