Hi! In this video, I explain how I swapped a 5.7L Hemi engine into my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. I believe this is the first video created that covers in detail everything you need to successfully do it. This same method can be used for other years too. There’s a lot of information packed into it, so hopefully it goes a long way helping people out. Enjoy!
NOTE ON CRUISE CONTROL: The ABS module was not on the shopping list, but you will need it for cruise control to work in the 5.7L because they're a different part number from the 4.7L to 5.7L, otherwise cruise control will not work properly or at all. Pulling the ABS module and PCM from the same truck is the simplest way to avoid the ABS module "VIN Mismatch" code which will cause the ABS and Parking Brake lights to be on in the dash.
Also be sure to pay attention to what tire size the truck you get the ABS module and PCM from has so that your speedometer reads correctly. This can always be updated later with the right scan tool if necessary. According to the Dodge techs at the dealership, the gear ratio cannot be programmed in the 2004 year model and is unnecessary as it doesn't affect the speed system or speedometer (which was true for me). This may be different in newer models, for example, my brother's 2007 has the option to change tire size and gear ratio.
Good luck!
