As an introvert I always tended to force myself to blabber more, thinking it would make me popular. The reality is that the more you speak the less profound and more annoying it gets, I understand now.

I'd like to think I comprehend these videos & concepts pretty well, though I have only heard about this book (and channel) today. I'm also a student of history, military strategy & tactics, and martial arts, so that may have given me a better foundation for understanding. Definitely going to check out the book, and more of these videos, in the very near future.

Great video. You can also use many words. When I need a new client for my services, I hesitate not to share exactly how I do it. I treat potentials as if I were teaching them how to do it. Within 15 minutes, they realize they can't, and I am immediately established as an authority. Then I say less, once they know they need me. Saying less gets me a better financial deal, and it forces the potential to reveal his cards. Sometimes, there are clients I wish not to work with. Silence forces their truth out. Great great stuff man

When I think of the 4th law of power, I instantly picture Tywin Lannister from A Song of Ice and Fire. His presence is so commanding and I think a lot of it has to do with how he uses pauses in conversation. Awesome video! :)

Saying less than necessary is good for “hamstering”. When you say little and be deliberately mysterious, people automatically make assumptions about what you’re hiding and not revealing. You can then move on to affirm the assumptions that you like (perhaps through law 9), and crush/dismiss the assumptions that paint you in an unfavorable light.
@stoddard1953

It's truly powerful. People like to come up with all kinds of reasons. Some logical. Some illogical. It may even drive you a bit bonkers seeing all the people coming up with these weird and silly things as to what you truly mean, but it puts you in the drivers seat.

This is so spot on! Im naturally very quiet and it drives people bananas! They're get uncomfortable, judgemental, they also ramble revealing alot more than they would if i was more vocal. I never am of few words as a power move its just how I am, but the things i observe is so interesting

I'm the same way. Although not everyone feels uncomfortable with me. Some of them like it! I remember going to an event, was there for 3-4 hours, didn't say much, and someone mentioned to me afterwards that they enjoyed my presence. I was taken aback because i had no clue I even gave off that vibe considering I was probably the one who spoke the least, but it felt good. Mind you, I wasn't even trying to apply Law 4. I was just being me.

Illarcetus I am stuck on law 18. But I don't want to come out of isolation. I'm not ready.
@Illacertus
@Illacertus 8 лет назад
The time is never right and it's never too late. The longer you stay in isolation, thinking things will change with time, the more difficult will it be to leave it, especially if things don't change, because you stayed in isolation. Ergo, isolation is the problem, not the solution. I don't know your situation, but I suspect that you might never feel ready. Maybe your best move would be to take decisive, bold action (Law 28).

I have a sort of dilemma with this law. On the one hand, I would like to try it because of all the advantages it offered but on the other hand, I like to make jokes. Jokes should, according to this law, disappear, isn't it ? Jokes are not necessary and the law consists in saying less than necessary. So, should I stop jokes to adopt this law ?

what about people that try telling people lies about themselves or what they want people to think about them, what do you think about this?
@Illacertus
@Illacertus 8 лет назад
That's Conceal Your Intentions / Play a Sucker to Catch a Sucker. I personally like areté (excellence, virtue) which is achieved when you are what you can be. It requires that your thoughts, words and actions match. That's when you're congruent / authentic. However there will be people in your life who would sabotage you and abuse your openness. I think it is better to stay quiet, than tell a lie. But sometimes we lie in order to protect someone, sometimes we think we're protecting someone's feelings, when we're really just hurting them in the long run. I like the idea that "The truth shall set you free." There probably is a time and a place for all of the above for you are not always surrounded by like-minded people and peaceful environments. Survival at times calls for deception. Influence, rather than manipulation. Food for thought. - illacertus

A problem I face with this law is that it seems more appropriate in a seduction case than while we are in a couple. In a couple, we should communicate rather than manipulate each other with principles like that, right ? I don't know. Is this law appropriate in a healthy love relationship ?

Like with all the laws, they're not meant to be used in every situation. If you're in that situation then disregard all 48 laws and simply get to the root of the problem.
