WTF is the 4 Cable Method and why bother using it?
It gives you the ability to run effects either before the EQ/overdrive stage of your amp or after it in the fx loop.
Certain effects can sound VERY different depending if they’re before or after the amps drive stage, so it can be a super convenient way to experiment with your effects.
Especially with something like the Helix where you can add/remove effects without any extra cables AND bypass the drive stage of your amp to use amp sims. Pretty cool.
In this video, I'll walk through how to set up the 4 cable method both with traditional pedals and a multi-effects unit! \m/

Don't you just love it when someone creates an instructional video and then ignores any and all questions generated by the instructional video? A graphic sketch of what he is saying is always very helpful. Previous verbal description failures are why most of us end up looking for better videos. Talking and jumping around with the camera while making side notes about the paths doesn't get it. Sorry but I'll have to go with a non "like" on this one.

Great video. Starts to get into one of the things I have been wanting to find a good demo of, and have just never found. With the 4 cable method. And bypassing your tube amps pre amp and using the line 6 amp sims. Can you seamlessly switch between presets in 4CM that say you are playing on a clean fender amp. Preset one 4cm. maybe a light drive in front on the tube amps preamp section, and a little reverb in the loop. Then, click preset 2, which is something radically different. Say 5150 amp sim on line 6, bypassing the tube amps preamp, and out the power section? I have search high and low and never seen anyone demo this specific idea. Maybe one or the other but not a seamless transition between the two in presets. This is honestly one of the closest I have seen that starts to touch on it! If you ever wish to expand on that, would love to see it! Regardless great video and super informative! Thanks

I have a question. I understand the 4CM, and maybe I am trying to overcomplicate things, but is there a way for your multi effects unit to change the channel of the amplifier without an additional foot switch? I have a Line 6 HD500X and a Hughes and Kettner Tubemeister 18 combo and I really love the sound of the amp but I find that there is not enough output when using the 4CM. This is with the output of the 500X at its maximum. Also, the amps eq, gain and volume no longer have an affect on my signal. They can be set to zero or maxed and there is no difference to the tone. Thank you in advance
