It's kind of ironic that many foreigners come to Helsinki for the peaceful vibe and locals move to Helsinki permanently because of the bustling city life that you can find nowhere else in Finland.
@talvetar3385

Yes. 😂 Any capital anywhere is hardly the most peaceful place. How about going To a nature or Villages. Even In their own home countries. Energy In Helsinki is far from Peace

Time magazine ranked Helsinki one of the greatest places in the world. It is not quite as underestimated as ppl think.

Nice to hear Helsinki surprised you positively! Thanks for the visit and welcome back someday! We who live here up in the North are used to not-so-dark nights in the summertime. We can sleep just fine in dim light, but many also use blackout curtains to control sunlight entering our homes.
@OliverJazzz
@OliverJazzz 3 дня назад
Nope, many living here in the north need a sleeping mask and Venetian blinds / dark curtains... 😅

Thank you so much! Your country and its people were so welcoming and kind. I’m looking forward to returning one day soon. And yes, I whipped out my eye mask for the last few nights, I would imagine blackout curtains are very common there. Not sure if it’s something I could ever completely get used to 😅

You saw the very southern tip of the country. As it is quite large coutry the areas in the northern parts are very different. I am planning to move back to Finland soon. I still have a cabin in the Arctic, and i want to turn it into a mindfulness center when i am back there..

Oodi Library is simply incredible. There are sewing machines, poster printing, music studios with lots of instruments etc. The spiral staircase is full of words answering the question: who is the library for? (The words are funny and on Oodi's website there is a list of them in English!).

SO amazing!!! I was in awe. We don’t have libraries like that in the states

Lovely. I enjoy movies (or videos) that depict a transformation from negativity to positivity. In this particular video, that transformation occurred when the thought "The last place I would have ever thought I’d visit" turned into appreciation.. This video reminds me to appreciate the blessings we often overlook. 🌟

Well, we are as north as Fairbanks, Alaska. More north you get, the longer the summer days are(and long nights in the winter).

I mean, I know that’s how it is, it just shocked me actually experiencing it 😅 I guess you’re quite used to it then living in Alaska!

Come to Kuopio, the capital of Eastern Finland, and you will find a true paradise. We have more than 6,000 kilometers of coastline and thousands of islands that are nature reserves, so birds can nest there in peace. And all this loveliness is in the lake district, inland.

I avoid Helsinki at all cost because it's too much of a bustling metropoly to my taste. Too many people who all talk too much. So it's rather interesting to see a foreigner's perspective to whom that place is peaceful. I could only see it as such maybe after living a few years in Istanbul or Tokyo.

Great to see your home town through visitor's eyes. You were lucky with the weather, it could have been a lot more chilly :) Finland is located at the same latitude as Alaska, so summer days are long. Fortunately, the climate is milder than in Alaska, but the winters are just as dark.

In Helsinki go to Sörnäinen metro station and you will not find peace when you see the drug addicts fighting. But central is quite peaceful and most of Helsinki. I live in Käpylä 2km from Sörnäinen and Käpylä is like Moomin valley. Nothing bad ever happens here. And no drug addicts.
@thetruevoyager
@thetruevoyager 2 дня назад
I totally hear that! I lived in the Tenderloin in San Francisco and in Oakland, California for many years which makes almost any city look mild in comparison. I understand there are people struggling with addiction in Helsinki. It's very unfortunate and I hope something can be done before things get worse like they are in the states! I'll have to check out those locations you mentioned. Thanks for watching!

You can ask or take hotel or hostel (room) where is blackout curtains. You can also call that hostel too and ask if you get next time when you visit. This time year we have nordic sun. Winter time its opposite sitsuation. Have you ever try sauna, and after sauna you swim lake, sea? And if you like, repeat that, and do it again. And last "round", after sauna, you wash yourself, and go one more time on the water, then you dry. Then you its 'real' after sauna time and you can drink lonkero, or something what you want. Its so relaxing. and you come totaly pure. Its our finns traditional and national way. Pineapple long drink its good too.
@thetruevoyager

Thank you for sharing! I am ashamed to admit I did not do sauna while I was there!! Next time I won’t miss it. I don’t drink but I tried the non alcoholic long drink and it was very tasty

In the past when Incandescent light bulbs were used, this would have been quite dangerous, but it probably was a 5 W LED or something that doesn't generate much heat. Of course it is good to test with hand how hot the cloth gets to have peace of mind.

I don't know why they don't have black out curtains in the rooms?? It is essential even here in Helsinki. The sun is much worse in Lapland in summer. Hope you will come again in shoulder season when the sun is not so strong at night.

@@talvetar3385 I know you are Finnish, your avatar name and picture are on full display. See, your experience may not be someone else's. Considering that the place looks quite tidy and clean and she was content with her stay, it is reasonable to expect nothng was wrong during her visit and there was even less reason for you to leave such a comment. It is so very Finnish, and so very impolite, to force a negative point of view to everything positive. It reeks of lack of tact and social illiteracy.
@stuckstepsis6976

@northstar2621 It is ironic how you are hating on Finnish woman for having apparently "Finnish" mentality in your opinion, while you are Finnish yourself and are manifesting the exact same Finnish mentality on her :D Stop hating your own culture for the love of god, embrace the jurous.
@northstar2621
@northstar2621 3 дня назад
@@stuckstepsis6976 Pointing out a manifestation of a collective cultural inclination towards socially invasive negativity and encouraging a person to see the positive side of things instead of bringing the positive energy down unnecessarily, is hardly a negative thing. Constructive criticism aims to improve things for the better of everyone, instead of making a point to focus on the negative :) Have a nice night.
