I learned a little trick from someone who maintains a huge fleet of golf carts at a major entertainment studio- a tank sprayer! I ordered a one gallon tank sprayer from Amazon. I enlarged the hole on the spray tip to ensure a trickle comes out and not a spray. This works great for filling batteries that are hard to reach. Mine are under the entry steps, so I would have to remove the batteries to fill them. This little tip saves me a lot of time and hassle.

I’m getting ready to upgrade to Battleborn....I recently bought our current coach and it has 4 lead acid and I maintain them the old fashioned way like you. Please keep in mind that you will only need 2 lithium batteries to replace your 4 lead acid ones and have the same available amp hours. Loved seeing the deer 😊

Hi Marsha. Thanks for sharing that information. We would more than likely want to increase our amp hours when we upgrade. Would probably keep the same 4 battery setup just lithium and double our amp hours. Thanks for watching and the comment.

My trailer uses one wet cell battery. It will probably be upgraded to at least AGM (maybe 2 AGM or lithium) when this one goes bad. My trailer stays in a covered storage unit a few miles down the road because the hail and heat are too much to keep it in my driveway. I bring the battery home with me after a trip so that I can easily check it and charge it up as needed. I bought a water dispenser thingy made specifically for batteries. It lets me add water one-handed while I hold a flashlight in the other hand to make sure I am not overfilling. A turkey baster would probably work even better.

I also spray my terminals and cable ends with CRC battery terminal protector spray. Which helps keep corrosion down to a minimum. It only costs about $5.00. You can use a cheaper product like Permatex 80370 for about $3.00 but I like the CRC better. Also folks should be very careful with the wrench or ratchet used so that the end opposite of what you are using does not come in contact with the other terminal post. This will cause a nice spark and shock especially with lithium batteries.
@EndlessRVing
@EndlessRVing 3 года назад
Thanks for sharing the CRC and yes you definitely don’t want to touch the 2 terminals!! Thanks for watching and the comment. Izzy

Wet cell Interstate. The battery box are hard to get into, but only owned since end of June. Yes Battle born is next step, but think need to get some usage out of the new batteries. Battle born is great about asking questions to get you the right setup. Just email them. But just south of a grand make them a big one-time expense (but need to calculate that cost over 9-10 years to get true value for your $$$
@EndlessRVing
@EndlessRVing 3 года назад
100% agree. I’m hoping they come down in price a bit they would be our choice when replacement is needed. They are warrantied for 10 years but will likely last far longer. What will be affected is how much charge they can hold, but it will still be far better than the interstate. Thanks for watching and the comment. Izzy

Izzy, it’s crazy to me that MH mfg are still using wet cell batteries because the reality is no one want to add water and that includes myself 😊 Our MH is a year old and I will be putting in some AGM maintenance free batteries this fall. As to your lithium battery question I would not spend the money not worth it and by the time you buy the Showhauler they will be standard equipment. When your current batteries die I would just move to AGM’s.
@EndlessRVing
@EndlessRVing 3 года назад
Hi Brett I agree the batteries should be better out of the factory. It comes down to price. We do plan on getting the lithium as they last a long time, have far more usable amp hours than other batteries and will go into our next rig. Showhauler outfits their motorhomes however you wish and want to pay for lol, but yes most are coming with lithium now. Thanks for watching and the comment.

My understanding is that when you switch to Lithium you have to be careful to change settings so that the LItium Battery Charging will be compatible with the Alternator charging. I also have seen the because of the incredible cost of Lithium batteries, AGM Batteries can offer better cost/value Ratio's.
@FL-Wolverine
@FL-Wolverine 3 года назад
We just purchased a 2021 version of the same rig that you have but have not taken possession yet. These tech talks are very informative. I have a coupe of questions. First, you mention that as you go down the road that the generator is working. Is this necessary? Doesn't the alternator from the engine charge the batteries? Secondly, I am concerned about having sufficient battery power to run the refrigerator during times while the generator is off and you are not plugged in (e.g. during quiet times at night). Do you have any issues with this? Is this why you want to increase your amperage with lithium batteries?
@EndlessRVing
@EndlessRVing 3 года назад
Hi Randy thanks for watching our videos. So to answer your questions. Yes the alternator will charge the batteries when the engine is running. We run the generator for 2 reasons 1. You should be running your generator regularly. They are made to run and not using them is when you will run into issues when you need to use them. 2. In the summer when it’s hot we run the generator so we can run the roof A/C units. It is not possible to keep coach cool just with chassis air. To answer you battery question. The lead acid batteries are not great. We have stayed overnight at rest stops. We will run generator until right before we go to sleep. By morning the batteries are down to 12.1 - 12.2 volts. Not great. Lithium will give you way more usable amp hours and they charge much faster. For us it’s not a huge issue as we are almost always plugged in even when not in use. With that said when we replace our batteries it will likely be with lithium. Izzy

Great video !! I’ve had to replace two of our Interstate batteries. They weren’t maintained by the dealership, maybe previous owner as well, had one blow up and the other had a cell the was solid. I bought the fancy watering system so that I can make sure I have the right amount of water in them. I’d also like some battle born just for the no worry part. Hey Tom...it depends on your current converter/charger. Some have a switch that makes them charge at 14.4 which is what the lithium’s need, others, like mine, have an add on that I can buy for around $15 that I can use to manually make my PD9270 boost charge up to the required 14.4 that the Battleborn’s need to be fully charged. They say I would only need to fully charge them a couple of times a month. My current charger and most lead acid charges only charge at around 13.6 I believe they told me. I spoke directly with Battleborn. We don’t Boondock that much either but I’m still getting 2 Battleborn’s to replace my 4 lead acid because my rigs previous Owner did not maintain them properly and they are ready to go and I’m ready to be done with worrying about batteries! I hope this helped!

Hey Tom. The dealers are the worst. I have made phone calls to Intellipower which is the charger on board.
