The red panda is easily recognized by its reddish brown fur on top and black on the underside with white markings on the face.
This color combination helps them camouflage and hide from the eyes of predators because they blend with the red mosses, white lichens and yellow-orange-red leaves of their forest habitat.Due to the low nutrient content of their diet, red pandas often have little energy and spend most of their time eating and sleeping.
At extremely low temperatures, red pandas can become dormant and inactive. Their metabolic rate slows down and increases only every few hours until the animal is awake and able to search for food.
