👉Free VFX explosion assets with transparency to be used in projects, for compositing or scene building in Nuke, After Effects, Blender, Davinci Resolve Fusion, Natron, or Unreal Engine. These are mutli-layered exr visual effects elements, so they can be split into layers to control different aspects of the explosion. This is better than traditional visual effects elements - because you can grade each LIGHT - which gives a more accurate result in your final CG composite.

I am very confused because it's all exr files that are unorganized and I can't import it to after effects.

Hi! I really appreciate you putting these out for people to use. I'm trying to personally better myself at video editing and I was curious, do VFX like this normally run this large? I tried installing the explosions but the site said it was 7 gigs and with my horrible internet that would literally take hours. Just curious because I am semi new to vfx! Thanks again!

Hey Carson, Thanks! Sometimes they can be this big depending on the format and quality. These image sequences (each explosion) have multiple layers stored inside of them. So for each explosion there are essentially 4 videos stored inside. This allows the artist to have much greater control over the lighting / look, rather than just a stock element that is placed over another image. Because of this and the fact that it has low compression the file sizes are larger than a normal video. Hopefully that makes sense! Cheers

Hey Vela, these should open in After Effects if you are using a relatively recent version. They can just drag in like an image or image sequence normally would

Hello! So, these effects are amazing! I'm using Blender, and Blender doesn't have any "import exr" option, so how exactly do I use this in Blender?

Hey there, These are 2D rendered effects with multiple layers, so they would need to be loaded into Blender's compositor if you were using in Blender. It's probably easier in After Effects / Nuke / Davinci Resolve (Fusion) though.

It doesn’t need one, it has an Alpha stored in it (transparency)

nope! An alpha is a black and white matte that tells it where to be solid, and where to be clear. White = solid, black = clear. Check out my after effects to nuke tutorial (last video posted) it explains it. Even if you dont use nuke its the same concept

Thanks for sharing but I would like to ask if how do you open this in blender? I thought after I downloaded it and extract the file I could see the blender file but I don't see it I only saw are exr file?

Hey there, These are .exr image sequences, so they can be used in blender's compositor, or used as a flat texture on a plane. They have multiple layers inside of the image, so you can separate out each layer for compositing. They can also be used directly in After Effects, Nuke, Fusion, etc.

If I want to run them through OCIO, what IDT should I give them?

These are just linear EXRs, so if you're compositing in nuke you can just import them as linear without any color transform. I haven't used them in fusion / davinci, it might need something like a Linear -> SRGB LUT, or Linear -> Rec 709 depending on what you're exporting for.

Hey Jacob, These are image sequences (.exr), so you can load them in as an image sequence. They aren't 3d files, rather they are used as compositing elements. However, they're multi-layer .EXRs, so you can still control each aspect of the explosion in the image. Cheers

@@jacobcroth6209 nope! these are 2d image sequences, it's a set of pictures basically. But, inside each picture you can find many layers. You can bring these directly into after effects without using blender at all! Try searching multi-exr after effects tutorial on youtube and you'll find how to use them
